Greece COVID-19 fight prompts Athens to free public space of cars

Athens is taking steps to become a greener city, and the COVID-19 outbreak has helped accelerate that plan.
The goal is to draw tourists back to the country which has been hit by the pandemic.
Municipal authorities are reclaiming five hectares of street surface and turning them over to pedestrians and cyclists.

Al Jazeera’s John Psaropoulos reports from Athens.

Well to be frank its a huge waste of space. I have walked on it and ridden my bike and its weird. They should have developed the space more and they shouldn't have taken two lines but one. Im disappointed with the results

How are you gonna get here though? Do you feel safe entering a plane or a ship? We don't test anywhere and the government made it illegal for the doctors to discuss new cases in order for them to be able to downplay the numbers. We don't know how many of us are infected but at least you can walk in the center of Athens. I hope things will get better...
