Xiaomi Redmi K30 - Nice, but not great? [Xiaomify]

The Redmi K30 is a bit bigger than the Redmi K20; sporting a 6.67 Inch display. It has a few improvements besides the size: its screen refresh rate is 120Hz, it has a 4500 mAh battery and the camera has improved with a 64MP main camera, a portrait lens, a wide-angle lens and a macro lens.

The fingerprint scanner has been moved from the in-screen fingerprint scanner as found on the Redmi K20 to be in the power button. -It's really fast, (like... Real fast!) but if it is a better experience than having it in-screen is debatable.

Like most of Xiaomi's phones, it comes with 27Watts Quick charging; it has an infrared blaster, and pretty much all the features we've come to expect from Xiaomi by now.

And even though it is a really good and fast performing mid-tier smartphone with a pretty decent camera, not that much has improved over the K20.

The K30 comes shipped with MIUI11; the latest version of Xiaomi's Android-based operating system. This has all the features you have come to expect from Xiaomi but somehow it IS missing the support for the newly introduced always-on-display. Perhaps this is something that will be added in a software update soon, but I found it weird to be missing.

Xiaomi also released a Redmi K30-5G model with an improved processor but besides that (and a minor, minor change in the macro-photo lens) there's also not much difference with the K30.

So bottom line: Yes it's a good mid-tier smartphone. It shoots decent photos, it's got some good specs for its price but it's not the groundbreaking changes you'd expect from a new model in Xiaomi's evergrowing range of smartphones.

If you're on a tighter budget the K30 might be a great phone to pick up as it is very well priced but if you have a bit more to spend Xiaomi does offer a lot more and you might even want to still pick up the K20 (Mi 9T) as it probably will be on discount soon.

You wont get always-on bc its an LCD not OLED

The main reason to not installing amoled display is to lower its price and 120hz display and sd730g processor is quite good and it's enough to fulfill my needs. So, it will be my next beast smartphone at my budget.

The switch to IPS LCD from the K20's AMOLED means there is no Always-On Display and In-Screen fingerprint sensor.

Woop woop! It's the Redmi K30; what are your thoughts? YES, I've slammed this video out as soon as I could, but I am still working on A LOT of videos!
I've got a SUPER BIG update soon that will not only impact me personally but also will have a HUGE impact on the channel. (In a very positive way...) It will involve doing my videos a lot faster, doing a lot more videos, and doing better videos and I am super excited about it. -More soon!

**Also I'll be taking some trips for Christmas, New Year (and in January for the Chinese new year) which will slightly impact my uploading schedule but I'll try to make it work and keep on posting. But one thing I know for sure; next year is going to be BIG!

the price is reasonable for the specs, imagine 64MP Sony IMX 686 with snapdragon 730 chipset. good deal for me👍 and I used it like a day selfies, if, fb, etc but since it has long battery I can used it until the next day. proud Redmi K30 user here😉

All the of these compromises, are needed to compensate the relatively more expensive SOC (Snapdragon 730G) and Sony IMX 686..

Can't really complain about this Xiaomi's decision to keep the price as low as possible

The title says it all. Even if a midrange phone is good- even very good it is still a midranger and still it will lack something. Manufacturers will have to cut corners on these cheaper handsets.

I would rather choose this than the k20 since it does'nt have any moving objects like a pop up camera, and amoled is known to have burn-ins which can lessen the resell value if your planning on selling it, also if your screen is broken, the in display fingerprint sensor can also break

I'm happy with my K20, but this feels like a downgrade to me. Going back to an IPS panel with a cutout is enough reason for me to not consider buying the K30. The thing that I liked the most on the K20 is its beautifull fullscreen OLED display. I understand what Xiaomi is trying to do, giving customers the option to buy a 120Hz phone for a low price. However, I prefer an OLED panel over a 120Hz panel.

The perfect K30 would have had an OLED panel without cutouts and with a 120Hz refresh rate, but that would have driven the price up.

First: Under display fingerprint scanner is not possible with LCD display
Second: Always on display also not possible with LCD display
Third: Even tho k20 is almost a year old phone now, it is still more expensive than k30... So, YES.. it is an upgrade, because it is cheaper, has bigger battery, better camera and 120 refresh rate.

Redmi k30 doesn't have an always on display as it has an IPS LCD panel

What ground breaking changes do you want fam? The camera, battery, screen and processor have all changed as you said. Do you want the phone to fly when you press a button?

Apart from that your review was fine; was a bit weird you didn't know that the always on display isn't available with lcd but that's fine. Also i dont think its about solving the full screen issue for anyone. I think it's just about Xiaomi trying a new form factor that they haven't been able to since they didn't have the rights

OMG he doesn't know why the phone doesn't support always on display
Omg and he's waiting for an update to add that feature
That's bad for a tech reviewer

Feels like such a step back
Now it isn't a flagship killer with premium quality, it's just a midrange phone

A lot of steps back, comparing to the Redmi k20

Mine is on its way. I'm a pretty loyal xiaomi girl, upgrading from the Note 6 pro, which I love. I'll update once I've had it for a week or so.

Yeah, I mean the 120hz without the Adreno 640 or upcoming 650, it's useless in gaming, since games wont be rendered more than 60FPS at best.
Some games on my Pocophone wont even render more than 30FPS, like Elder Scrolls Blade.
So the higher refresh rate needs a much better GPU, otherwise is useless, just to scroll around at the menu.

Great video again like always. Keep up the good work. ✌

I think its great that the fingerprint is on the side, not in the screen. Because its faster, its cheaper and you dont have look on the device to hit the right point to unlock it.

I dont need always on but Amoled would be better for darker blacks, less battery usage. And i see no real benefit in 120hz. Yeah... Looks "smoother" ... But for what ?
