Replacing PS4 dualshock controller rubber buttons(fixing Playstation 4 controller)

Today i am fixing the D-Pad on a Playstation 4 controller. I'll be opening it up and replacing the broken rubber conductive pads and hopefully getting it working again

My X button was mushy, worked fine but felt off as it didnt just "bounce" back up like the rest of them. Finally ordered the rubber pad kit for $4 and watched your vid. Working good as new again. Prying it open was a pain, but with a plastic pry was able to do it within a few mins. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the video, my X and O buttons were almost dead with no movement so I ordered the rubber kit on Ebay for £2.59 and using this video I had the controller working as new within 10 minutes. Once the 4 main screws were out it was a little tricky to split the case due to the amount of time that it had been closed but use a little pry tool and take your time and Bob's your uncle :)

@EveryDad DIY - Hey man quick question. Where do you get the rubber replacement for the d pad. I was looking on Amazon but some rubber replacements don’t fit certain controllers. For example, I would have to find the model number of the controller to see if that specific rubber replacement would fit for that controller. I hope this doesn’t confuse you but can’t I just buy a random rubber replacement for the d pad? Any rubber replacement for the PS4 controller should do right? Or can you send a link on where you got yours?

So I attempted what you did with my controller and the blue little piece from the ribbon cable came off. Is that important? Do I have to buy a new one?

Thanks for this video man! The Down-Forward on my Controller is ridiculously soft and doesn't have a "Clicky feeling" compare to most other directions on the pad. Most likely it's from all those years of playing fighting games (SFV/Tekken7) but it's super soft/sensitive.

I'm sure that's the part that need to be replaced but what do you think? Thx in advance;)

Hey man, does the pad for the (x, o, ∆, square) matter for different versions of controllers? For example, would it fit on all gens of controllers? Or only specific ones? I'm not sure what version of controller I have and which ones work, so I want to see if I can buy any version of the pads.

Hmm when I replaced the rubber on my L2 and R2 and now I have to press the triggers the whole way before it registers anyway to find the original parts?

Down dpad pressing itself it because of the rubber Its so easy to press and even it press downdpad by itself I decided to bring the controller to the repair shop other than disassembly by myself

Hi everyone.
The left hand side of the controller (up, down, left and right) is working fine. But right side (X, O, triangle and box) suddenly stopped working. I have no idea what happened. Do you think i should replace the rubber pad?

I have fixed my L2 drift before. I go back to clean it again and then when I’m done I see d pad buttons start to click by themselves. Any help?

Where did you get your prying tool from? I got cheap plastic ones and they broke.. Followed this vid to replace mine (the X button was mushy straight out of the box) and it's seemed to have worked a charm =)

One of the cables somehow cut off, I looked online on how to fix it, and it says to use a hot glue gun (which I have), I feel like it's unsafe though! Any tips?
