In a major embarassment for the Narendra Modi Govt, the income tax e-filing website the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had to again haul up the Infosys top brass today for the recurring glitches in the portal for which the government has paid Over One hundred, sixty four crore rupees.

In a meeting with the Infosys MD & CEO Salil Parekh in Delhi, she told him how the government was deeply disappointed and concerned about the continuing glitches in the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department, even after two and half months since its launch. This launch itself was delayed to begin with. Even Nandan Nilekani has been assuring her all along but to no avail.

And here's what exactly happened in the meeting.

On a separate note, a lot of you have messaged me regarding the 40% off on 90-days supply of It Really Works vitamins to get back the thick volume of hair, that you may have lost, like I did, or if you have been struggling with hair thinning and hair loss issues like so many of us. It works for men and women both.

And this is a great 40% discount that doesn't come often...trust me it's a very big discount. You have to use the promo code THICKHAIR40 and it is applicable on all non-discounted items.

Infosys is facing a very large exodus of experienced people and are being replaced by freshers to maintain costs. This has lead to poor performance by them in this project, and probably others not in public domain.

What else do you expect when you pay the developers 3.5L

This is really embarrassing for infy. The irony is they do a quality work for Europe or a US project whereas perform shady job for an in-house govt. project even after being paid an enormous amount. We keep blaming the govt. employees for being ignorant and lazy and here I do not see how infy is different from them.

This shows the reality of the quality issues with companies such as Infosys

Infosys hired white hat jr teachers to build that website.

The Finance Ministry calling up its vendor and not only raising its concerns but also giving it an ultimatum (Sep 15) - That is good governance. In the same manner, wish each State govt calls up each of its departments and not only checks its efficiency but takes actions based on findings - that would transform India to another level. For that, privatization is the key. Jai Hind!

Even If Freelancers got this project, they would have done it with much better quality.

this is what happens when a govt doesn't understand software goes gaga over digital india.

badly written software doesn't fix itself by ministers shouting at engineers. pick a wrong vendor and the project is doomed for disaster.

Taxpayers are paying fines for delay of filing return, this time gov is delayed, gov should give fine to taxpayers. What you think.

Every body blaming the software developers. Understand the plight of developers and testers here. They are treated like donkeys they are asked to meet unrealistic dead lines and the companies put them in multiple projects in parallel which ultimately reduces the productivity. They pay 5 to 15 L and they earn 10 to 15 times more on you in the same time frame. They expect you to know everything from day one they make it and you should have it. That’s the thing they want.

The software developers and testers working on this project are in deep trouble... I can imagine the number of meetings, email exchanges and pressure their technical team must be facing at moment.. As we used to call it 'Bhai lanka gayi padi hai, senior management ne raat ein kaali kar rakhi hai'.. Typical IT lingo..

Instead of putting all the blame on Infosys, I would like to provide a contrary view.
1. Was the company provided enough time to test the system properly, or was this rushed project to meet government deadlines?
2. Why was the old portal removed before the new one was confirmed to work? If the government can run two tax regimes, can't it run two tax portals?

Infosys would not even dare to move the code to production with such issues if the client was any US state govt. Or a federal project. We Indians don't have any self respect.

Infosys, Wipro, TCS n other Big Indian firm don’t pay good to experienced techies rather they make freshers to work in critical projects😒 ye to hona hi tha ..
I worked for Wipro for 3 years on same salary🙄
When I moved to GE, whole world was different and amazing but new leaders hired from TCS, infy service based companies and it changed the world of GE(which used to know for the best company to get retire)

Companies like Infosys and TCS don't work like Government sector but they ask for top employees and employees without any gap may be due to any xy reason.
The best example of "ऊंची दुकान, फीका पकवान"।

It's disheartening that a company as prestigious as Infosys has developed our nation's e-filing portal. Somewhere down the line, it has forgotten its legacy.

As much as I wouldn't like to believe, the money alloted for the "portal" seems to have ended up in "pockets".

I am struggling to do e-filing from 1month...always Infosys ask about school college score....what Infosys will do with scores if you don't have a smart employee...Infosys recruitment is worst as they look only into grade and marks .worst website they made.earlier website was good atleast we never faced issue. No need to blame govt it's Infosys issue and the team members who took this project lightly.

Mr. Nilekani who was one of the founders of Infosys is an articulate person and who is passionate about India's development through use of technology. He was also regarded as the main person behind the development of Aadhar. Now, in this matter, he is totally silent. Isn't it expected of him to come clean on why the tax portal, opened on 7 June and which was having problems right from the start, was still having glitches two months later. Doesn't this show a glaring lack of commitment from a company well known for it's good governance.

Being an Indian - its Embarrasing as well as Proud moment for me.

Embarrasing : for the glitches in IT Portal
Proud:
For Indian Govt. tightening screws of an Indian IT company which has been choosen for AADHAR, GST and now IT Portal.
"Make in India" - Trully standing by the motto - GOI hasnt been running for any US based company.

This is even what we havr been doing since 2 - 3 years.
We banned CHINESE apps. We distant ourselves from Chinese Goods to support our local mfrs.
We provided incentives to those Companies which were operating from China to shift their Mfr & Assembly hubs to India.

Yes, the World isnt perfect. But together we need to work on it. Time to regain our lost glory 🙏
