Love it. He explained the history and the differences between his plane and the original very well. It was very relaxing and enjoyable to listen to somebody who is very knowledgeable about the plane, the service, and all of the flying intricacies that went along with it as well.

Nicely done, Mike.
This gentleman embodied the subject matter.
The segment gave the sense of actually talking
to a pilot from that age. And allowed you to just
ruminate in a by gone era.

Director Peter Jackson is a big WWI aviation fan. He owns a company in New Zealand called The Vintage Aviator. He helped Kermit Weeks with his Albatros. There's another great company called Craftlab.

This is great detail about the DR1 presented by a very informed gentleman pilot. Mikey McBryan should know more about this particular plane. The one he is building in Canada surely will have many of the same quirks. Reach out to him if you have not already. Cheers Mel

The gent gave a good speech. Yeup, kit plane, engine is not Gnome and it has a tail wheel, this one flys better than the original.

It's a shame that for the DR-1 it doesn't have cantilever spars like the original. It also could use a radial engine! Not as temperamental as the rotaries but at least the right general shape.

That bit of information about how the Red Baron died was news to me. Who would have thought he would be killed while in a low level dogfight by an infantryman's rifle. Very informative and interesting. I would be interested to know the thoughts behind the scalloped trailing edges on the wings. I know they were still trying to mimic bird wings around that time period. But the other design elements for that time period seem quite advanced. Thanks for this most interesting overview.

Wow, the red Baron really makes Rickenbacker, and even Tex hill look like they just barely made ace.
