Sally Ride - The First American Woman in Space 🚀

Sally Ride was a true trailblazer, breaking barriers and paving the way for women in the field of space exploration. In this video, we celebrate her legacy as the first American woman to fly in space and her contributions to science education.

From a young age, Sally had a passion for both science and athletics. She earned degrees in physics and English from Stanford University, where she also competed on the tennis team. Her passion for science and her determination to succeed led her to apply to become an astronaut at NASA in 1978.

Out of over 8,000 applicants, Sally was one of only 35 people selected to join NASA's astronaut program. She made history in 1983, when she flew on the Space Shuttle Challenger, becoming the first American woman to go into space. During her career as an astronaut, Sally went on two space missions and spent over 343 hours in space.

After leaving NASA, Sally became a professor of physics at the University of California, San Diego, and continued to inspire young people to pursue careers in science and engineering. She founded Sally Ride Science, a company dedicated to promoting science education for children, especially girls.
