It’s one of the oldest existing world records on the books and you’ll be thrilled each time you watch it: 94-kg Akakios Kakiasvilis lifting for Greece at the 1999 World Weightlifting Championships in Athens nails this 188-kg snatch on his third attempt. “Khaki,” a 30-year-old two-time Olympic champion at that time, was born in Rep. of Georgia (né Kakhi Kakhiashvili), home of another Olympic gold medalist in weightlifting, Georgi Asanidze. Reliving Khaki’s success is a nice kickoff for the 2015 European Weightlifting Championships being held in Tbilisi, Georgia, and IronMind photojournalist Randall Strossen is on his way there to capture the lifts of the current European champions.

Took nearly 2 decades for this WR to go down. Kaki is an absolute legend.
