Jane Toy is proud to be a Whanganui artist who specializes in abstract works utilizing a range of materials across the media of painting, drawing, digital and textiles. Jane has been known to ‘draw’ with thread and to ‘paint’ with wool so she revels in the broad approach that abstract art allows. Many of her works stem from her love of Euclidean geometry which she plays with to create interesting optical twists and turns for the viewer. Jane Toy is intrigued by the multitude of forms that can be generated by a starting point of the simple geometric shapes we are all familiar with and which surround us in everyday life. By simplifying complex forms, or conversely complicating simple ones, Jane plays with line and colour to create strong and vibrant works that speak directly to the materials and processes at play.

The Colour In Your Life fine art TV series is an art show that takes you into the everyday studios of artists from around the world. While in the studio they share their individual art techniques and art tips with the viewer in a relaxed atmosphere, with a delightfully Australian host and fellow artist, Graeme Stevenson. The artist shares with the viewer their stories of life, painting, drawing, sculpting, art workshops and any art lessons they may provide. The art TV series is currently filmed in Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Graeme Stevenson, a world renowned artist himself, rides his Harley Davidson to the studios of artists all over the world and allows the viewers a chance to see some of the greatest artists of the world in action.

I'm a big fan of just nice shapes and colours without pretending there is deeper meaning other than "it's pretty". That blue/green piece behind Jane is particularly tickling my fancy! I love her mixing of ordered and disordered edges. Great work!

Your pieces are amazing! Your ability to keep your lines so perfect is unbelievable! I tend to work with curves because I don't have the skill you do for geometric shapes and straight lines. I am so glad you told us about the gouache !
I paint in acrylics but it can get so frustrating to have to paint the same parts with two, three, even four coats to get the opacity I want. I can't wait to go buy a set of gouache paints and eliminate that problem!
