We’ve been organically growing garlic in our home garden for 9 years, and it’s one of our favorite homegrown crops to grow. Growing your own garlic gives you so many more flavor options than you can find at the store. You can pick the garlic flavors you like the best, for the ways you cook. We would bet that you'll find the homegrown garlic flavor is the best you’ll ever taste.

It’s really easy to successfully grow garlic at home, after you figure out which variety grows best in your growing zone. Whether you live in a northern, transitional, or southern zone, we’ll give you some ideas about which garlic will grow best. We’ll explain the differences between hardneck and softneck garlic, and how long they’ll both typically store.

We’ll show you the methods we use to plant and grow garlic in our raised beds, and how we store our seed garlic for successive plantings. We’ll show you which garlic heads we choose for seed garlic, and show you the entire planting process, including preparing the garlic bed for winter.

I'm here because of Reed's mention, too. I'm very glad; I'm a new gardener and I need a lot of in-depth instruction. This channel is it, I believe. So, thanks, Reed, and hi and thanks, Cortney!

(Edit: your name 🙂)

Hearing you say you guys grow garlic and raise chickens and decided to name your Homestead a farm you just gave me the same idea to do the same thing in Delaware we already have a garden with tons of produce we’re just now about to pull the trigger on the chickens and get a coup

Careful with adding N to your garlic, excess might lead to fungus rot. Like with most plants it prefers deep, loose, aerated and somewhat moist soil which is typical for loamy soils.

You can tell you are a true gardener by not using any gloves! True gardeners like to get there hands dirty! Thanks 😊

I wish I could plant some now!😂 I love garlic and I’ve never had it fresh out of a garden so that would be a real treat.

Plant a few old time tater onions and be overwhelmed by them in a couple years. These things spread like crazy!

Always enjoy your videos! I have never grown garlic, but maybe I will next fall. Where I live, we can get temps in the -30s during the winter. Is that too cold for garlic?🤔 I suppose the snow we receive provides some insulation, but our weather is becoming much more unpredictable.

Your soil is a lot fluffier than our gumbo down here.
