I Bought “REFURBISHED' Xbox Series S Consoles from GameStop...

Recently I bought a refurbished Xbox Series S from GameStop (it was the first used/refurbished "next gen" console I'd seen from GameStop). I look again a few weeks ago, and realized they had a bunch more in stock, so I decided to take a gamble on a couple more refurbished Xbox Series S consoles to see what GameStop actually does with these things... let me know in the comments what you think about these "refurbished" consoles... does GameStop actually do anything with them??

They really need to drop those pre owned/refurbished prices lol. $280 is a bad deal when a brand new Series S is only an extra $20

Yellow stickers = Clean only
Green stickers = No need to open
Red stickers = Send to Texas for repair

Stickers should always be removed by the shipping team. I know this because my fiancés brother works in the upstate NY office where most “Repairs” happen. P.s. sometimes they’ll clean a console on the outside and call it refurbished to charge the premium.

I like how the top of the box is taped perfectly (both flaps even) and GameStop really couldn’t align that white strip 🤣🤣🤣

So, as a GS SL2 (gamestops official title for a manager who runs multiple stores) the reason why we have those certified pre-owned boxes but sometimes the labels say gsreferb is because those are the only available "take home" boxes any gamestop can recieve. So, when someone brings in a gently used console for trade in, we have to do test on the consoles, it's wires and the controller. Normally, the controller is tested separately before the console is tested to ensure there is no stick drift or issue with the controller. IF the controller works, we move on to the console test. If there is an issue with the console we will let the trader know and if they still want to trade it in for some quick cash or extra trade credit, we mark it defective and we ship it out to the defective repair center. If the console works and has no issues (we normally only test them for about 30 minutes to an hour max) we take it in as certified pre owned or 'used'. Now, for used consoles, all we require is first-party controller (the controller for the trade has to be branded, we are not supposed to take in third party or off brand controllers) a power cord and an hdmi (for all consoles the requirements are different but the gist is to trade in a console with every component the brand new console would come with) what we don't require is that the console and controller matches. When we ship out defective controllers, the defect center parts controllers that are beyond full repair to make minor repairs on other defective consoles. Which is why you got a somewhat "custom" white controller. I definitely agree that gamestop should have separate boxes for refurbished products because it helps cut down on confusion

I bought a refurbished series x from them and it's A1. The controller that came with it was a custom blue one. I'd prefer the black but it's cool

Well I do work for GameStop what I know is that unless there’s something broken they will fix it other wise they won’t bother

Refurbished consoles were traded in as defective in store and sent to the refurb center. They'll still give some trade in if it doesn't work

I bought a refurbished series x from Gamestop. I kept periodically checking the website and lucked up at 1am and was able to purchase. Took 2 weeks to send it because they didn't actually have one on hand, but still got it. The front of the console had some light scratches on it so I just bought a skin to cover it. You can tell it had been opened because the screw was through the back label. The controller that came was black with the center back portion being white so it have been refurbished as well. Haven't had any issues with it thus far. I went on and registered it with Microsoft and says it's under warranty until December. Honestly I didn't mind it being refurbished or having to wait because it was bought 100% with trade in credits.

I just bought a series in good condition for $150 from this guy from OfferUp he had good reviews and showed various pics when I asked to see more pics of the console and shipped it the same day can’t wait until comes!!

Fortunately, I purchased the same thing from the same store for $216! And it is running great! It's just a matter of time until the launch of the black Series S with 1 TB SSD this September!
