I tried to study English or I tried studying English? What is the difference in meaning? This is something that is asked a lot on tests! In this grammar lesson, I look at the verb "try", and will teach you when it should be followed by a gerund or an infinitive. The meaning of "I tried to watch the movie." is not the same as "I tried watching the movie." Watch this lesson and find out why.

Thanks for making it as clear as daylight. Now I know when to use "try doing something" and "try to do something". It's very clear to me now. Thanks again!!! Keep up your good job!

This video is really clear and make sense when applied to examples. I was curious how was I taught by English teacher when I was in middle school, and searched the Chinese Website in order to see how they explain the difference; the results turned out inadequate and kinda misleading! I feel happy to watch this and will be able to explain to my students next time!

I am a Taiwanese English teacher.
(我是一個台灣的英文老師)

The reason why my English is so good in comparsion with most of my fellow Taiwanese is that I have been constantly learning and practicing English.

Hopefully the average Emglish ability level for Taiwanese can improve a lot in the very near future.
(希望台灣的平均英語實力能在不久的將來大大地進步)

I have finished watching this video completely.
(我已經完整地看完了這個影片)

This video is awesome!!!!
(這個影片棒呆了!!!)

It is bloody useful!!
(真是夭壽實用!!!)

Big thanks to the teacher and all the fellow students around the world.
(大大地感謝老師與所有其他國籍的學生)

Clear explanation, but you said... I tried to eat healthy! eat + adjective?! ... surely you need an adverb after eat in the example you used! Try using this: I tried to eat healthily... fixed it for you, you're welcome! x
