IK Multimedia Uno Synth Hands-On Demo

At Superbooth 2018, IK Multimedia introduced the Uno Synth, a $199 portable, monophonic, true analog synthesizer.

At the show, we talked with synthesist and synth designer Erik Norlander & Enrico Dell'Aversana, who gave us an overview and hands-on demo of the new synth.

Another IK masterful product. I really think these guys are very important for electronic musicians because they make fantastic quality affordable gear focusing on portability with no loss of anything. Just take their small monitor that fit in a backpack that can be used to mix professional stuff. I have several of their products and love them all. This cool little synth looks great at 4 times the price. They will sell so many of these things because they aren’t looking to make huge profits on each unit. Definitely going to try this out. Is the “proprietary” midi adapter the same as Arturia’s? We out here really need a standardized 3.5mm to midi format so that all these manufacturers are using the same configuration! Ideally we could simply go 3, 5mm midi out from a beatstep to 3.5mm midi in on an UNO instead of large, heavy connectors and fat cables adapted to tiny connectors. We’ll need to keep a stock of multiple spare adapters for when they fail, but without needing to go to the 5-pin they’d last longer.

Looks great. Definite buy. Just one thing bothers me. Knobs are really close. Considering how much space they have there.

Super! What is the best way to purchase one in Amsterdam? I saw one retailer in UK (gear4music) has them for 234 euro, but would rather purchase through Tweakers list or local shop here.

Question: if i use the Uno Synth keyboard to control other gear (connetting gear by midi) does the selection of the scale works? For example, can I play the sound of a Volca Key or other midi synth in pentatonic maj scale using the Uno Synth as midi controller? Sorry for my English :D

Hard to fault the synth at its price. Demo is well done, but next time please allow Enrico to speak at least one word, as he looked a bit like a mime at times ;)

Wanna like this, but have watched a lot of videos, and it’s not much more than a toy in both sound and design. The guy pretty much calls it a toy for kids at the beginning. Battery powered noodling is all good, but I think this would get boring pretty quickly. Tempted cos of the price and portability, but not enough sonically going on. Still a little bit tempted though.
