Thank you Zdenka. I am 70 now and started making YouTube videos just to practise using cameras, keep me occupied now I’m retired, and just test out gear given to me by a shop in readiness for videos that they show on a loop in the shop itself.

I used viewer comments to shape the final video for the shop, but I got to the point where I felt compelled to make videos for fear of losing my audience. It started to really tire me out and I even got to the point where I had developed atrial fibrillation and was fainting between takes!

Now I have had an operation so I’m back to normal but the whole experience made me wonder what on earth was driving me. I felt compelled to make videos, even risking my health.

Following a series of ‘different’ or should I say ‘alternative’ viewers who began to follow me around, basically jibing for sport, I decided I’d had enough. I occasionally make videos for YouTube but just get on with enjoying making my own family videos. The pressure (and jibes) have gone and I have returned to the enjoyment of my hobby.

YouTube made it too much like work for me. And the pay is awful, so that’s it for me.

Best wishes,

Ian

Such an honest talk, Zdenka! I totally get you. It's getting wilder and wilder on the platforms in general.

Wow! Thank you for the mention in this video 😀I love this video and the message you've shared. Totally agree, it's all a choice - no need to hustle and grind to the point of burn out, no need to try and go viral on every video (that to me would be super stressful!) It's about doing what works for you.

All these YouTubers quitting makes room for all us up and coming Tubers. Stay positive. As long as you enjoy doing what you do, the universe will reward.

I just turned 55… started a podcast last year and considering YT this year for the creative play/art part of my life. Thank YOU for this video!! You represent exactly what I want! I am preparing for retirement, not looking for big biz… this was so so so helpful 😍!

It looks like YouTube has really been promoting this video. I’m glad it was recommended to me and that I found out about your channel. You make a lot of really good points.
I’ve been avoiding making shorts. Hopefully YouTube will realize many of their popular creators are not following the shorts trend and they will adjust the algorithm so that it’s not hurting creators who only want to make longform videos.

Well said it’s so easy to get sucked in with YouTube . Many people have no idea when they start how much work goes into making a video and how critical people who’ve never even tried can be! They expect TV or movie quality all the time. Being slightly older with outside distractions of life is a good thing to gain perspective. Thank you for your honesty and keep up the excellent work at your pace doing what makes you happy.

I watched the whole video Zdenka. I think it was made as much for you as for the rest of us "interested" people. The presentations I have viewed in the last year with you as presenter are genuine and easily understood. I just received my first Hohem gimbal after watching your review of them. Not sure if you made any money from my viewing the review, but I hope you did. As soon as I see your name/image on a You Tube video I know it will be presented well and I often watch it. Keep at it and glad to see you reflecting on what you are doing. I'm doing it all the time and I don't have kids or a dog and I am very busy. Thanks for sharing. Steve (Australia).

Do more video's like this. You will reach over a million subs easily. You are honest, widely experienced, wise, and very beautiful to watch. You have a fantastic personality, and lots of charm and charisma too. Just be you and people will love you, and your content, whatever it is

Zdenka, I can’t add much to this topic except to say that your teachings have helped me enjoy videography as a hobby in my retirement. I am aware of the pressure this business model must be for creators at all levels. Thank you so much and best wishes. - Allen

I really enjoyed listening to you, and all your thoughts rang true for me. I started doing Bonsai videos after my wife died and I had to fill a gap and 'find myself'. Two years later I am already looking to slow my content because i recognise the early signs of burn out. I have a wonderful, but small community, and it has given me so much joy to interact with new people. Bonsai has been my passion and content creation actually reduces my ability to do this properly. Getting the balance can be so difficult :)

I'm sad to see some of these youtubers quitting. Some of the big names and yourself Zdenka have inspired me to pick up a camera /phone and create. One of the nice things about Youtube is the community and finding others with similar interests that we can learn from. I think the fact creators feel they have to upload to keep the algorithm happy doesn't help. It's hard when it's been your dream to have a successful channel. Those channels have worked so hard to get to where they are but like everything in life there needs to be balance or we become overwhelmed and burn out. Good advice, thanks for all the great videos.

47 is not old!!!
I turned 51 a month ago and I am on the verge to start creating content for my sleeping channel.
I hope you stay here, because you have to realize that you have a bunch of fans on this platform and for some of them you've become family.
Anyway...thanks for your great advice, your openness, your honesty and just for being real, for being you!

Zdenka, thank you SO much for this video. I loved getting to know about your backstory; including the biz of your content creation. I hope you do more videos like this. As the founder and managing editor (content creator) of a community of 12, 000+ real estate photographers that do 3D/360 photography) and a companion podcast, I thought you were talking just to me (even though 24, 000 others have already watched your video on day 1!) I am particularly interested in your gimbal reviews and frequently post your gimbal reviews in our online community. I hope you don't get burned out and your dog and kids allow you to continue to create awesome reviews (and now some more backstory videos about generating revenue from your YouTube channel. Zdenka, thanks again! Dan
