What went wrong was Connery turning down the role of Gandalf.

But there are some fun little details. At the beginning of the movie the camera pans across a street and there's a newspaper posted on the wall with the headline "Volcanoes on Mars." This is a reference to the 'War of the Worlds" book

This movie and Van Helsing are seriously underrated. They are great popcorn action flicks full of dumb but entertaining and spectacular dynamic scenes.They have both great makeup, costume designs and coreographed fights.

I really like the Jekyll and Hyde relationship. Very interesting and fun. They did a far better job than the MCU did with Hulk. The movie does a good job feeling like an epic crossover.

I loved that movie.. Zero woke'ism.. Because I knew all the characters from my childhood. Actual characters from oldstyle gothic literature. Not Comic books.

It is an adventure action film, combined with Historical Costume drama, with supernatural world.
With extras combined with iconic fairytale characters from Victorian era literature.

For me, when I first saw it as a teenager in the 2000s, I absolutely loved this movie.
And the fact that Sean Connary himself had the lead role made the film more extraordinary

I like this movie. I think the main reason it failed is too many people are not familiar with the literary characters in the movie.

It’s a cheesy movie but I always liked it. The dialogue is actually pretty witty here n there, specifically when Captain Nemo asks Mr. Hyde about the transformed guy that drank the potion, he says “it’s me on a bad day.”
