West Oahu residents speak out at crime prevention town hall in Waianae

West Oahu residents are fed up with the crime, especially in the wake of a couple of murders. They showed up at a town hall meeting Wednesday night demanding answers.

Lambert hit the nail on the head, it’s a brake down in family values. Agoo, you did lose your son, but is there others to blame? Your kid should have been home, you should have been protecting your son by keeping him off the street’s. When our kids get away from us, let’s not look to blame others, let’s look at ourselves, and if we don’t have the answers then seek help. I said seek help, not seek blame. School teachers, police officers, and frontline workers that work with keiki can attest to the breakdown of the family unit that lead generations lost to the ways of the "world". The mentality needs to change. The parents must teach that violence does not solve anything. Sorry about Agoo's son, but didn't he also have a gun? The governor cannot do anything if the judicial system just slaps them on the wrists and let's them free.

Common sense gun safety reforms could prevent weapons from landing in the wrong hands. Required gun safety training & mandatory locked storage etc. We need those laws at the federal level. If you're a law abiding gun owner, why be against safety measures to save lives? When I was growing up in Hawaii people got into fist fights & survived. There wasn't easy access to guns.

ehh, family values! Mahalo HPD Major for making that point. These critical things start at home...and YES parents are the first ones who are directly responsible for their children. Why were these teens at a illegal chicken fight, and armed with a gun? If these were adults the story would be different. "Where are your children and what are they doing?" Hawaii is not a 2A friendly state, and have extensive gun laws on the books....this will not stop CRIMNALS only hinder law abiding citizens from protecting themselves.
