If all the 3 admirals put in their 100%, the whitebeard pirates would be finished way faster. Aokiji's ice can freeze literally anything and everything, Akainu's lava can easily destroy any target in their sights, Kizaru's lightspeed can enable him to take down any missing target and can be used for long/short range attack or reenforcement. But sadly, you know how it ends in both manga and anime...

Whitebeard is like Hannibal from Second Punic war. A smart and tactical fighter who knows how to reach his objective (saving Ace) fast. One example of his tactical brilliance was his hidden ship underneath the water surface, so that he could save his crew once the ice started melting from Akainu’s volcanic eruption. Unfortunately he lacks strategic acumen. He was too arrogant of his own abilities to save Ace and enter the death trap set by the combined might of Shichibukai (doffy easily brutalised his subordinate Oars) and Navy HQ. He also had that health issues to boot. There was absolutely no way the world’s strongest man can win in a long drawn out war with the three admirals, even with his subordinates. This was the same issue Hannibal faced when he couldn’t eventually win over Rome’s economic and military might.

If he was cautious enough, he could have gotten Red hair shanks’ help in this rescue attempt, since Shanks was friendly and helpful towards him. This would have allowed him to save Ace as well as get out of there alive. This was especially important because Blackbeard later came. A strategic thinker would try to win the game before it started and this was the reason why Whitebeard deserved to die in this Paramount war no matter how noble his intentions were. His arrogance was especially exemplified when he refused to heed Shanks’ advice of not sending Ace after Blackbeard. Shanks, unlike Whitebeard, never underestimated the marines. He was able to fight off Kizaru smartly like Rayleigh, something Z and Whitebeard couldn’t do.
