The Jurchen, and later renamed Manchu, people have a long history in China as well as Mongolia and East Asia as a whole. However, their impact on the history of the region is quickly being forgotten as the people themselves are being forgotten.

Thanks for talking about our culture. You know more than me as a Modern Manchu from the hometown of Nurhaci. Deeply appreciated!

Times are changing. As a Manchurian, I quite agree with my grandfather's words: "Any nation should have the courage to adapt to the environment. Only when it exists, it will have a future."

Nurhaci was a dog lover. He banned the slaughter and mistreatment of dogs. What a compassionate great leader he was in the 17th century! As a dog lover and a descendent from the Border Yellow Banner, Nurhaci had my utmost respect. May Nurhaci rest in peace! Will certainly pay tribute to him at his resting place.

Truth be told Mandarin is a Hybrid language of cultures of China. Old Mandarin was created in the Jin and Yuan Dynasty and was established as the official Chinese language by Klubia Khan. The Song Dynasty at the time spoke Middle Chinese which wasn’t favorable to the Mongols. Middle Chinese was closer to many of the southern dialects of today. Mandarin is also considered a Jin Dialect too which is different from any other dialects. Later on the Ming and Qing Dynasty created what we know as modern Mandarin with added mixture of local Han languages.

In a way the Jurchen(Manchu), Mongols and Hans has a huge part of in creating what is China today including their official language.

Jurchen history is fascinating. Existing amongst strong neighbors like mongols and Chinese but still holding their ground.

it is unfortunate that Manchu people are losing their identity
they are very beautiful people, both men and women
we have their relatives here in Yakutia, Even and Evenki people, also beautiful, truly indigenous people

The Current Chinese people behave as if they ruled the Chinese territory during the whole history, but they were under the rule of Mongolians and Manchurians.

there are lots of interest comments here, as a Manchu I will say this: Manchu is one of many ethic groups lives in China, even though we are not Han but their culture influence us in the past hundreds of years. Manchu are Chinese because that how the Qing Emperor called the land they ruled. We are citizens of PRC(which is China), so we are Chinese.

It's Ch'ing, not Hsing. You seem to be pronouncing it incorrectly.

The problem for the Manchurian Qing Dynasty and reason why their legacy did not resonate with the Han Chinese today is simply due to the their cultural reputation in Chinese history (which is subject to debate) and also due to later cultural movements that forever reimaged and reshaped the Chinese Heritage (namely the Xinhai Revolution in late 1800s to early 1900s and also the Cultural Revolution Post World War between Nationalist and Communists in China). Alot of Manchurian culture, identity, and peoples were purged after World War Two with a reputation of being traitors to the Chinese people for allowng their Manchurian-Qing Emporer (Puyi) to be captured, blackmailed and used by the Japanese to control and oppress the Chinese populace post First Sino-Japanese War. Also in history, unlike the Mongols, the Han chinese never had a good image of Manchurians as they were seen as usurpers of the Imperial Throne as they really just took the capital and named themselves China in eyes of the traditional Han People. Temujin and the Mongols on the other hand conquered the Song and Northern Dynasties such as the Jurchen, Tanguts, and others Fair And Square in the eyes of most Han people and also gave additional territory to China and laid foundation to trade and commerce through the Silk Road. The Manchurians just usurped power when the Ming Dynasty was having interior struggle, so no official war and surrender and thus Manchurians could be unfairly viewed by most Han Chinese traditionally compared to a more respect and favorable opinion of the Mongols due to situational differences. Mongols and Han kinda united under Temujin, whereas Han Chinese had to force themselves to allow a usurper called Nurhaci and Hong Taiji to be rulers of the Chinese people. (Sense the difference in perception). In addition alot of traditional bad reputations were made of throughout history by the Han perception of the Manchurians. For example, the Manchurian court was considered corrupt, and also Manchurian rulers drained alot of the nations resources and wealth through history for their own pleasure and did not benefit the empire at all (part of this stereotypical thought contributed to how Han Chinese also perceived how they lost the Opium War later on- basically Manchurians were too drunk, corrupt, wanted opium (which are all possibly stereotypes) and Han Chinese today still feel thats why the Chinese could not fend off the British. Other stereotypes of Manchurians are they were cruel and invented foot-binding of women in China to keep women abused and at home, also they preferred the que (or ponytail) as a hair design over the traditional Han top-knot as a totalitarian gesture that the Manchurian emperor rules the Chinese people - its reputations like these to this day make modern Chinese folks to tend to affiliate with Han cultural disdain towards Manchurian culture. As a person of Chinese heritage its kinda sad but heck, people are people, if they dont get along what can you do. 😔
