Now I know that we should not be relying on our makeup to give us great sun protection in summer - but we hare having the hottest British summer on record and I HATE sticky spf creams and lotions and so I am staying out of the sun and relying on the best foundations to protect my skin. I even tested some of these on holiday (ps I do not put my face in the sun if I can manage it at all).

There are foundations here to suit all skin types and remember the spf15 is fine if you are in the office all day, but opt for the spf 25 or 50 if you are having the sort of summer we are right now (earlu 30 degrees most days) ... and still stay out of the sun anyway because you know it's bad for your skin. (Ok I am a little lax with my body, I admit it).

The foundations and the brilliant anti shine summer powder on a budget too ... are

I only used sunscreen when I went abroad. Didn't think I needed it for our British summers. Relied on SPF in foundation. Just had surgery for skin cancer on my face. Got a scar where my nose has been reconstructed which streches down almost to my mouth. Please subscribers wear sunscreen. There are lots of different formulas to suit all skin types. It's not worth the risk.

I think the problem is that you are unlikely to wear enough foundation to get anything approaching the SPF on the label. This is the recommended amount of sunscreen:
5p-sized amount for your nose
5p sized amount for your hairline and parting (if you're not wearing a hat)
10p-sized amount for your forehead
10p-sized amount for each side of your face (including the cheekbones and below the eyes)
I can’t imaging anyone wearing that much foundation on their face! So therefore the protection you would be getting would be much less than the SPF on the label.

If you look at the amount of foundation you would need to use to get the correct coverage the bottle would only last you a few days and you would have product an inch thick on your face. Always use a separate SPF.

I use Shiseido UV Protective Lquidid foundation SPF 30... its light weight and has has just the perfect “natural” coverage! Thanks for you suggestions Nadine 😚

Dear Nadine. Thank you for sharing your favourite foundation products. As usual your videos are very useful and interesting . Although I would always wear a proper sunprotection underneath, i think having an spf foundation on top is a great way of having additional protection.

You need about 1.2ml of product on your face to get the rated SPF. There is no way you could get that amount of foundation to even stick on your skin, and you’d look like a 12 year old girl who is trying makeup for the first time.

I’ve been trying lots of different SPF 50s, with the other non-glowing IT Cosmetics CC on top. I have really sun-sensitive skin that burns with the slightest exposure, so I keep out of the sun as much as possible, but still get the burning feeling when crossing the road etc. I’ve not found an SPF that works for me yet.

I’m 41, everyone thinks I’m about 25, so I guess I must be doing something right in terms of looking after my skin, but right now, it looks really shiny and it’s reflecting and magnifying all the pores, and I actually look better at night after I wash it all off before putting my night serums and cream on.

Not really sure what to do.

I wear Australian Gold mineral spf50 sunscreen and then a foundation with sunscreen, you need both, I agree with previous comment and so does my dermatologist.

One needs separate spf under the foundation to get enough protection.
Quite expensive foundations.

Just wondering if you have ever tried Heliocare 360 Fluid Cream, Broad Spectrum SPF 50, gosh that was a mouthful..It looks gorgeous on its own, gives a slight glow to the skin and sits perfectly under foundation..Would love to know what you think of it..❤️❤️❤️

I’m happy to see this video. It is hotter than heck in Boston too. It’s 96 degrees and over 70% humidity. I wear a sunblock 365 days of the year. I have been wearing Supergoop Everyday Sunscreen . I really liked it at the beginning of summer, now I find it very dehydrating on my cheeks and around my mouth. Forget wearing foundation over the top of it. Even after topping it with powder on my nose, even my long wear foundations slip and slide. I would love some recommendations

Can you do an updated must have makeup brush or collection video and maybe a vanity setup?

I recently got a fantastic dupe for the it cosmetics brush and it's amazing! It puts on foundation and concealer beautifully.

HI, Nadine - I love your channel! Thank you for weeding out all those products that are on the market to give us the best - dupe or otherwise. I live in Boulder, CO. There is zero moisture in the air and with the hot Summer Sun ... well, it's even worse. My only friend throughout the entire year are Korean face masks .. daily morning and night and misting ... always.
This is not a foundation per se but it's got a broad spectrum SPF of 30 - Spray Solaire Huile Embellissante by Clarins that I use for my face, neck, body, hair here in Colorado or wherever I travel out of the U.S. As you would say ... it's brillant. I get the SPF I need without foundation because if I attempted foundation, I would be a dry mess; however, in the evening a dab of my all time favorite Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet (SPF 15) over my other fav Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow with my Clarins and I'm set all year! x - Teresa

Thank you and congratulations Nadine. It is plus 43 degrees in Arizona and the It Cosmetics CC cream is my go to. I remain fair (MAC NW13) throughout the summer because it is like wearing a liquified astronaut suit. I also apply the DE or Australian Gold SPF underneath and Supergoop products over. I think you look fantastic during a heat wave with no air conditioning.

I am English and have lived overseas for about 23 years and I am still terrible at wearing sunscreen as I hate the feel. Since watching your channel and because we are of a similar age, I have been looking at what I can use and try, in a very hot humid climate, so on the lookout for sun screens and foundation or the mix together. It is also very hard to get the brands that you show here, so maybe a internet buy. Love your channel

Hi Nadine 😊 I’m using Tretinoin every night so I’m using spf 50 every day. My favourite brand right now is It’s skin, they have wonderful serums but also a really good spf 50 😊

I’d like to try the It cosmetics cc cream but unsure of which colour I’d be and need to actually try it rather than buy from QVC. The Light Wonder is the only foundation I’ve ever actually finished and will probably repurchase. It’s beautiful stuff! I also use an spf 30 on my face as well as foundation!

The hype over the powder is very well deserved! I have a back-up ready to go! I have some expensive powders (ahem Chanel, Hourglass, Laura Mercier ahem) and noticed I reach for this above all of them. Also fab for blending eyeshadow.

Do you not need to wear an actual spf under your makeup even if you have spf in your foundation? I was taught that the concentration of spf in foundation wouldn’t add up to what you require even in British summer. I’ve been using the Beauty Pie spf under my IT Cosmetics everyday.
I’m interested in hearing your thoughts! ❤️
