Scope says hide. No! Not hide, H.I.D.E. Watch Scope's 2016 TV advert for our End the Awkward campaign.

This film takes a light hearted and humorous look at awkwardness around disability. We know that almost 40% of people have avoided a disabled person for fear of doing or saying the wrong thing. That’s why Scope says hide. Well, not hide – H.I.D.E. Say Hi, Introduce Yourself, Don’t Panic and End the Awkward. H.I.D.E.

as a person with a health condition myself, i found this advert great as it teaches people to invite people with disabilities into the convo and help them not feel isolated which is great. however with that being said judging from the comments not everyone interpreted it the same way as i did

I don't understand why you'd want to promote treating disabled people differently. I think if I was disabled, I'd be embarrassed if people thought they had to make a big deal out of acting differently around me. You seem to be encouraging discrimination.

All the comments are negative so I felt like sharing my positive opinion :) I've had to use a cane since I was 12, and many people do avoid me because of it. They rush conversations with me and they're always impersonal. I like that you're trying to put across the message that treating disabled people differently is silly, and in such a light hearted way as well!

What I realized: This is just how to greet other people.

I understand that some people don't really understand how to talk to someone who looks or sounds different but this just seems a bit odd. You're telling us how to talk to disabled people but they are just people. I talk to them exactly how I would talk to any non-disabled people. I treat them how they treat me. Saying hide is a bit silly as well. The people in the ad couldn't possibly have known that the voiceover was using an acronym.
