I'm from England and when I first heard that this special was going to be aired on channel 4, I got super excited and stayed up all night for it. I was about 14 or 15 when I saw it. A lot of the animated films and shows they brought up were very new to me, they introduced me to a world of animation outside the mainstream. I found out about European animation and the idea of animated films for adults. I totally agree with all your criticisms of the special, it's a very awkwardly handled countdown with many problems but I still credit it for opening my eyes to the range and scope of the animation industry.

The list was also missing a lot of anime, unfortunately. Sailor Moon comes to mind because it brought anime to a female audience outside of Japan.

Now this is a masterpiece of a review. But still, Dungeons and Dragons the animated series over Looney Tunes and Mickey Mouse? REALLY?!

I'm British and even I find the list a bit disorganized. It should be called something like 'Channel 4's Greatest Animated Films and TV Shows Voted by Britain' or something. Something that includes 'Britain' in the title so that everyone knows that WE voted for the list, not America or anyone else outside the UK.

I could remember watching this when it first aired, and being confused as to why 'The Simpsons' was voted number 1 on this list and their list of '100 Greatest Kids T.V. Shows'.

It's honestly impressive that a youtuber like yourself is familiar with British media like this. I am Scottish and it brings me a little joy and intrigued to see media like this get attention from folk outside my nation like this 😊

9:50 - 10:02 That's exactly what the show was. It was made for a UK audience, not an international one, that has no real interest in animation as a medium, and would treat all animation as "just cartoons". That's why the list never bothered me as an animation fan, because I knew it would be far too casual to make a serious case study, although it did introduce me to some new works so I still think it was worth it.

I was pissed when Yellow Submarine was missing as that was made in England and is actually brilliant.

How can you have a top 100 without Animaniacs :( Terrible list lol.

That it was a UK based vote also explains why in their 100 family films special Hollywood classics like Its a Wonderful Life, King Kong and Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs were dumped in favour of British offerings like Curse of the Ware-Rabbit, The Railway Children and Oliver!

You know it's bad when Watchmojo is a more creditable list-maker compared to this.

That Michael Jackson/Scooby Doo joke that Jimmy Carr made could have worked a bit better if the delivery wasn't so monotone. Maybe if they had gotten someone with a bit of energy in their voice like Jonathan Ross or Dara O'Briain to present the special, the joke wouldn't have been as awkward.

This is why you should always specify what should be allowed on a list

That 50 greatest cartoon book has "Bambi vs. Godzilla" in it. I thought everybody should know that.

Watching this, I'd...kind of like to see you make a top 100 list for cartoons, if you're able to AniMat. I'm just curious about what you'd pick. n_n Though considering this list had, yeah..I can get why it would be hard to do. Maybe focusing on a certain genre in animation would be easier. Or making a ranking list with the theme and choices being what company owns them (such as Disney or DreamWorks). I do also dislike the notion about animation being treated as a genre since all cartoons have their own differences.
