I test drove one of these today. You're right about electric being fun. And that's coming from a hemi power guy for the past 9 years.

The fifth seat is for people who usually ride motorcycles or horses 🤣. They probably killed it for good since sedans unfortunately are out and it's all about crossovers now. I think they'll hang on to their gas engines as long as they can to recoup their investment but hybrids are just too complicated when they are switching to be all-in on EVs. I think once the battery recall stuff is sorted, the Bolt SUV will be the hot seller. Can never understand the configurable one pedal driving stuff especially with hand paddles: there are two types of drivers, those who like one pedal driving, and those who haven't haven't given it enough effort to give up the old ways.

the easy way to understand what Volt is by taking the best of 2 cars - prius and tesla - from prius you take regen on gas and from tesla you take regen from power cable - in other words the Volt is a full EV (cause it can be recharged from the wall) with a gas power generator - keep in mind the reason you never feel the switch from battery to power generator (also known as ICE) is because there is no switch at all - as all sources of power are connected to electric motors directly and when too much power being generated and regenerated the extra power (also known as extra juice) sent to recharge the batteries - that is how Volt manages to reach super nice mpg for you - HTH!

personal opinion here: Volt is a step up from prius and tesla all at once - it kills both of them like 2 birds with one shot - prius needs to be filled up with gas in order to regen to reach high mpg but it cannot be plugged into the wall at all - so you do need to use gas station in order to drive prius - likewise tesla can be plugged into the wall but it cannot run on gas when you cannot wait longer than 5 minutes - yes! trust me there are times like that too when you are in the middle of the uber ride and pax cannot wait for you longer than 5 minutes otherwise you are paying their waiting time out of your pocket - so what Volt has down with Tesla and Prius limitations, it removed any limitations by giving you a chance to never run on gas or to never run on juice or to run on both without the need to be pressed hard with time - i salute to volt for making life easier for everyone universally - yes it is no longer produced but the people who got it now are the luckiest ones - by the way the used volts are priced like brand new ones now cause the demand is sky high on them as we speak -

The range extender is exactly that, a range extender. Its not connected to the wheels but act as a power generator to the electric motor. Would like to have a 2018/19 Volt meself, even if gas prices collapse overnight I'd keep it.

When you drive that car do we need to push a botton something to activate the electric part? I am so curious.
