My new hopper setups! These seem to be working really well so far and I'm pretty happy with them.

Those are awesome setups for them the port holes are cool idea. Like something out of a science lab. Definitely interested in trying to breed them as well. And those mites are probably a type of grain mite I’ve had them come in before in the chicken feed that I feed my roaches. To combat them I put double sided tape around bottom of the enclosure to keep them from spreading and I’d keep the enclosure as dry as possible and they slowly die off but the tape definitely helps

I really like this setup, simple and clean look. May have to borrow it whenever I get around to raising crickets or grasshoppers in the future.

Perhaps put a tray to put the soil in it.
Secondly have you thought of getting a rubber circular cut out as a cover ? that will fall back in place once you are done with the work in those circular cut outs.
Thirdly springtales are better to have a clean up crew. if you can find predatory mites than it will help to keep the population down.

If they are red/orange mites then you need predatory mites to get rid of them
