The French man who has admitted to enlisting dozens of strangers to rape his heavily-sedated wife asked for forgiveness from his family on Monday and hailed the courage of his now ex-spouse during his trial. FRANCE 24's Jean-Emile Jammine speaks to Sarah McGrath, CEO of Women for Women France. She says that Gisèle Pelicot is the "perfect victim, with the perfect evidence"; but despite that, defense lawyers tried to chip away at her credibility, "going almost as far as accusing her of lying".

He wants forgiveness ? He would still be doing it if he hadn't got caught.

She had terrabytes of evidence..and they still tried to call her a liar.. this should speak volumes about what victims, many of whom dont have this much evidence to back them, face when trying to seek justice for the crimes committed against them..

When I asked my friend if she reported her rape to the police she told me she couldn't cope with the additional trauma and that he'd probably get off, anyway. I didn't report mine, for the same reason.

*Forgiveness? I don't believe he's sorry for ANY harm he did them... he wants leniency for his horrific acts!*

Global women thank Madame Peticot for her bravery. We are tired of being shamed or demanded to provide proof of our pain/abuse

Where did Dominic Pelicot get the drugs and sedatives he used? Did he have prescription? Did he buy them on the black market? This is an issue that should be addressed following the outcome of this precedential trial. We are Gisele. We stand with Gisele.

The underlying issue that needs to be addressed is misogyny. Why do men want to harm women, how can we stop that? The trayna of that woman is beyond horrifying. I wish her a better future.

*Gisele deserved Time's person of the year!* I lost all respect for that award and media company.

The most salient point how 'good' men are absent from the fight against rape. Wonder why?

"If a woman is unconscious, she can't give her consent. It's that simple."
THANK YOU

What steel nerves and commitment to principle Gisele has shown pushing through this ordeal in full public view. She has my utmost respect. Best wishes to her from the US.

Gisele Pelicot should be declared the person of the year worldwide. She is a strong and amazing woman.

In addition, we need to teach our sons to respect women.

How dare the lawyers for the defense attack her credibility and call her a lier! Her abuser pled guilty!!! Was that not enough?

I do not understand why are these men allowed to use hoods and why their names have not been disclosed either.

This trial is a has been abhorrent. true disgrace... the defense has been abhorrant towards Gisèle. P.
It says so much about French society. I am French, and cannot count how many men I have heard saying that rape was women's responsability. Also, many men are very quick, as well as some women, that many rape claims are fake.
When you consider the ratio of accused men against the local population, it is incredibly scary.
Only a quarter of the accused men have suffered from terrible childhood trauma.... Again, it says a lot about my country...
Indeed, the biais about rape and against women is huge in France. 👎🤦‍♀
I am going to say it, I felt more secure regarding these issues when I used to live in England. it is not like France was a progressive country anyway....
