Thank you, I think I would start with the one you started with. That is the one I like

Speaking as an advanced boo-boo making beginner, my first 2 cardigans were by Tara Lynn Morrisson----NANAIMO and KINIKIN. Both knitted top-down with larger needles and bulky-super bulky yarn. Quick, easy, and a huge confidence builder! No buttons, pockets, or special shaping techniques. For me me that is not/or would not be a "beginner" pattern. Also, Ashley Lillis---produces FULL
-length video tutorials for cardigans, pullovers, and vests. If you need a friend to "show you", she is your gal! Might be ready to attempt Caidree's "Home" Sweater. Thanks for compiling.

One of the easiest cardigans is the cloudy day cardi. It’s a lovely garment, I did one in a colorful green and am planning to do another one.

Great video, now that it’s not raining in Washington state, so I’m not knitting. Outside working in the yard!

Great video! My first cardigan was the Felix by Amy Kristoffers, and it was really great. By then I had already knit a sweater by Isabelle Kraemer, who had German Short Rows with a linked video so I knew what to do when I got to the Felix. I really think I lucked out by knitting Isabelle Kraemer first. Her patterns are so well written, and the Felix was also great.

The Harvest is a great option. I just finished mine—it’s both my first cardigan and first sweater.

I knitted a Harvest cardigan for daughter.
I think you knit a long garter band for the neck and then pick up the rest and work down.
Easy enough for a basic knitter that had a long breaks.

My morning knit with the nerd! 😂❤Still on socks. Just did my first Eye of Partridge heel flap. Might do a cardigan next.

I knitted the Kukka Cardigan of Rosa P. - a simple Top down raglan cardigan - together with a beginner friend. She had never a question, the pattern seems to be well written. I like your channel and appreciate your recommandations very much, with greetings from Germany!👍🏽🙋🏻‍♀️

Just found your channel, have liked and subscribed. Thanks so much for your input about making cardi's for the beginner. I'm just now trying to get back into knitting after a 10 year hiatus and would like to start by making a cardigan.

Tonia, your videos are so informative and have helped this relativity new knitter get a better idea of where to start when considering a new project. The sources out there can be so overwhelming with the sheer number of patterns it can be impossible to know what's appropriate for a beginner. A project that is way beyond a knitters ability could turn them off from knitting completely. I almost quit several times in the beginning by biting off more than I can chew. Knitting should be fun to learn. Not a chore. Just remember that babies have milk before meat.

Knit a small one for the first time....that's what I did for my very first project. I got a toddler pattern. I divided it like a cooking recipe by halving the rows and stitches. It fit a small doll.

I would highly recommend the Kylie cardigan by Ann Klimpert. It is a garter stitch cardigan so no purling. It is a top down circular yoke cardigan. There is no ribbing on the bottom so casting off is easier. Plus picking up for the button bands is easier because you pick up 1 to 1 on the garter stitch. There is also a Baby Kylie if you want to start with a smaller version. I made both the baby and adult versions, and they both fit very well.

Those were some great patterns. I love cardigans, and I don't have enough of them. If I wanted to modify a drop shoulder and bring it up on the shoulder, how hard would that be? I'm a size 2X and drop shoulder designs make me look even bigger. I need things to fit in the shoulders and chest then get looser.

Zasio was my 1st and great although I made it too big but I have gotten the most compliments from it . I chose bright greens and yellow and some light blue stripes from one of those striped balls of yarn ? lion brand ? pattern from Very pink knits
