Diagnosis AERD: What are causes and symptoms?

AERD is typically diagnosed in adulthood. It's an acquired condition, so patients may have never had issues taking aspirin or NSAIDs but now cannot take them without experiencing an asthma attack or other allergic symptoms.

Even while avoiding NSAIDs, patients can still experience respiratory issues.

With AERD experts at the Penn AERD Center, diagnosing AERD in patients who present with asthma, nasal polyps and clear cut history of respiratory reactions to aspirin or NSAIDs is straightforward.

In some cases, a supervised oral graded challenge in a properly equipped facility by an AERD expert may be necessary to clinch the diagnosis.

Patients are given a low dose of aspirin under close supervision, and then safely the dose is mildly increased until respiratory symptoms occur. Once diagnosed, Penn AERD experts can begin effective treatment.

I don't have asthma but I have had nasal Polyps for a few years and can't smell anything (for about 6 years), also have etd. For about 8 months now I have had an allergic reaction to alcohol, even after a sip I instantly feel dizzy and find it hard to breathe... I wonder if this AERD thing is what I have? Doctors have no idea why I'm having an allergic reaction to alcohol and nothing has shown up in a blood test... Question is, how do I cure this and will I be able to drink again?.... Would removing nasal polyps fix it? find it hard to think that nasal polyps could make me allergic to alcohol, I've had them for years and drank without a problem
