If you've ordered or own the Nikon Z 180-600mm F5.6-6.3 VR lens then I really advise you get this accessory. It not only protects your valuable Nikon Z 180-600mm investment, but also helps in other ways. Viltrox have just released a new Pro Series Ultra-thin MC UV Protection Filters range. The good news is these filters are available in 95mm which is the filter thread size for the Nikon Z 180-600mm lens.

I feel a whole lot easier now knowing I have a UV filter on the front of this lens. Might head out more often with it now with a bit more confidence 🙏📸

Great video, Adrian! I especially like that you pointed out a slight uptick in image quality with the filter.

I have been putting a highly regarded German brand of UV filters on my lenses since my film days.

Excellent tip. I had gotten away from UV filters but recently I have started using them again for your reasons.

I use always UV filters, but for Nikon Z 180-600mm I bought a Nikon Neutral Color filter

That is exactly why i always protect my lenses with uv filters.

And I am always surprised when i hear professional photographers saying not to use uv filters on lenses and simply rely on your lens hood..
claiming that uv filters create flares and unsharp images… well i can’t say i ever experienced any problems with my uv filter protected lenses!! But then again i do buy quality uv filters 😉👌

Just picked up this lens today and only managed to take a few images of my dog with it. Super impressed so far.

Hi Adrian, really an interesting video, buddy! As the lens hoods of such long lenses tend to be quite big on long as well, I would rate the lens hood itself already as kind of "protection". But that at least for landscape photography in open terrain 🙂
But I can imagine, you can have bad luck, of course, by getting a small branch with the "right" angle into the lens while following a bird into the bushes. Then you are definitely lucky when you had an UV filter screwed on 🙂
Thank you for the video and nice greetings,
Christian

I just got my 180-600. It's such a great lens. Really happy with it

Great tip and perfect way to protect a valuable piece of equipment in your kit. It would help with the resale price of the lens too if you ever go to sell it down the track. Thanks for sharing.

Yep!! I make sure I have a UV on all of my lenses. Hoya make a UV & IR filter and I have one of those too for my 24-200 Z lens. Light is restricted to 390 to 720 nm light and that theoretically should give a cleaner image. Cheers!

I have tried several filters on this lens. The only issue I have run into is with CPL filters as the filter thread is recessed on this lens they can be difficult to remove.

Being a slim filter, are you able to attach the lens cap to it? Or does it need to be removed, when putting the lens cap back on?

Good video. How does this compare with the Nikon Arcrest filter?? I did get this lens and using a Hoya UV currently. Use Nikon with the 500PF, 400/4.5 and 600/6.3, but the Nikon is Protection only without UV. Do you have a view on which has the best light transmission? Thanks.
