We didn't get much on how to actually view the eclipse. I was hoping to learn how it was possible using those cardboard looking glasses or how to make that pinhole leaf thing that was mentioned or even ideas that failed as eclipse viewing devices. I guess I misunderstood the point of the video from the title and intro.

I'm getting so hype for this. I'm on the PATH OF TOTALITY

I live just north of Boise, ID. TOTALITY! People from all over the world have flooded us. It's amazing!

Your logic is horrific: The Designer is shotty, because the occurrence of a Total Solar Eclipse is very rare. Oops!

Um.. so, how do you exactly view the solar eclipse? The video hasn't answered its own question.

My husband and I are driving to Idaho from Las Vegas to reach the path of totality. :) We have eclipse-viewing glasses, but will also be making a pinhole camera to bring along.

I live very close to Niagara Falls, only 40 minutes drive, and have so for 20 years. After seeing it so many times growing up, I've lost much appreciation for it. Even to me, an advent hiker who spends weekends on trails and in the wonder of nature, the wonder of Niagara Falls has just become another waterfall. I had some friends visit for Canada Day weekend this year, and they were dying to see the Falls. Their excitement, their expectation, and their jaws dropping when they saw the total awesomeness of Niagara Falls reminded me of my younger self. I had and have such easy access to a wonder of the world, and I've lost appreciation for it. I don't think I would appreciate the awesome splendor of a solar eclipse if it happened all the time.

My mom and I had to go to 3 seven elevens to find glasses, and we went out empty handed even though all pf them got stock an hour before. My dad later went to another place and got the last ones for us, and apparently there were three people behind him who wanted one!

Living in England, this is going to be an eclipse I'll miss. :(

I think the "imperfect" natural of the solar eclipse and all of the variables that come together for a total eclipse to occur is more remarkable than if we had a total solar eclipse every month.

You can watch a total eclipse from everywhere on earth! Just go out at night, it's kinda like that.

I will be in 98-95% totality in Tri-Cities, Washington. Not going to the 100% totality area because of all the traffic. Solar glasses are completely sold out here in stores. Only way to get them now is from people selling them for way too much.

I'm a huge fan of The Good Stuff... Have been since the birth of the project. Yet, this video doesn't actually tell me "how to view a solar eclipse" as the title says. C'mon guys! Make accurate and engaging content, then title the video.. not the other way around. While I'm subscribed to the channel and have seen every episode, I also have a daughter in 1st grade who wanted to watch this video with me since there has been so much talk about it at school. While the video was very educational, it didn't share with us how she can observe the solar eclipse aside from buying some eclipse glasses on Amazon and hope they aren't back-ordered. Craig and Matt (and the rest of the team), I have faith in you... But don't sell titles for clicks... Let the content stand on it's own legs.

For the most part I believe Nature is the intelligent designer, with creative influence from many _different_ sources lol ;-)
Also, to me my friend, there is no such thing as a coincidence. It's an easy way to dismiss anything though

This presupposes we would know the purpose of said design, and that said designer would be concerned with proving his existence empirically. It could be that this supposed designer just wanted to put on a good show every now and then.

We're going to the path of totality to view it, and we're meeting up with family, so it'll be a nice family reunion plus a solar eclipse! My daughter, niece, and nephew are going to download the NASA GLOBE app to report various measurements and observations. It's going to be fun!

You literally never even explained how to view one, wtf

Fun fact: the eclipse is on my birthday. :D

This makes me so sad. I love this channel and have learned so much from it, but this video is so far off base. You used this episode as a podium to ridicule believers in intelligent design. What do you think you'll accomplish by calling God a "shoddy designer"? That's not going to convince anyone of anything, it'll only inflame a large part of your viewer base.

Even more, the argument you're making is so bad. It's just pulled from your own opinions and beliefs with no real standing. You're saying that if an intelligent God designed the universe, eclipses would be more common. How could you possibly claim to know that? You're assuming to know the mind of God. You're assuming a grand designer would want eclipses to occur every month. This isn't a scientific fact like you're presenting it, it's just your completely unsupported opinion.

Personal note below...

I am a Christian who believes in intelligent design. This doesn't make me an idiot, as you'd like your audience to believe. I also hold a BS in Aerospace Engineering and currently work at NASA. This doesn't even make me a unique case: I have colleagues and mentors in this field who are Christian. You too have a colleague in both Engineering and Christianity: Destin Sandlin from SmarterEveryDay.

This was the first total eclipse I ever saw, and it did make me marvel at God's wonderful creation. If anything, to me this experience would have been less special if it happened every month. I'm not going to try to "prove" intelligent design to you, because I can't. That's why it's called faith. In the same way, you can't disprove it with your bitter musings.

“"For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ" (1 Cor 2:16).
