An annular solar eclipse will grace the western part of the United States in May. BEWARE - Do not look directly at this eclipse with out a proper filter! Annular eclipses don't totally block out the Sun and are thus dangerous.

we just saw this eclipse today May 20 2012, and ulpoaded a video of it today taken northern CA..

Sure will, it will be a partial eclipse, with about 83% of sun covered.

I saw it in Redondo Beach with the naked eye due to the coastal clouds. About 3/4 of the sun was covered...Whoo, Hoo!!!

:) Just a few weeks ago my mom asked me what that bright "star" is. I told her that it was Venus and also that Mars is currently quite visible (unfortunately I don't have a telescope though for details).
Her only answer was: "why didn't anyone tell me that you can see all this without any telescopes".

This made me realize how different I see the sky (and world in general). Heck, I can even tell the time and directions by looking at the night sky.

if u live east of panama city fl u wont be able to see it. if u have the chance to see it use a welding mask and it will be safe

ever try the disk from one of those 3.5 floppies ? it's a pretty good filter
