1991. I’m ten years old, in the back seat of my brothers Chevy s10 Blazer, on the way up a winding road to a ski resort. I’m lucky I get to tag along with him and his cool friends. The Speakers are blasting out a tune….Runaround….from a tape cassette of a band I didn’t know about, Van Halen. And later when I’m skiing down the slopes, all the songs from this album drift in and out of my head, imprinting themselves deep in that place where sometimes, music begins to mean something really special.

Later, as we drive down the road form a long day of skiing, Top of the world is playing, and my soul is lifted again by all the wonderful sounds from Van Halen. Even though I’m exhausted, everything seems perfect, for a little while.

RIP Ed. You brought real joy to a little 10 year old kid one day.And these songs still take me to those days sometimes.

While "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" might not have been their best selling album, it was clearly their peak "maturity". They nailed everything on this album! They had the right energy, musicianship, creativity, camaraderie, visuals, style, music videos, marketing, sales, tours, etc... So wonderful to sit down and remember VH in this golden era between the late 80's and early 90's.

Saw em with Hagar and Roth. With Hagar, in the beginning they were always rocking and were a tight band. Then egos, drugs and alcohol took over. I hate what they did to Mikey towards the end. He was with them from the beginning. His backing vocals made Roth sound better. Love ya Mike!

I’m really disappointed at how little EVH appreciated Michael Anthony’s contribution to this band’s legacy. Great bassist, incredible vocalist. Toward the end of this era, Ed wouldn’t even bother to use Mike’s input, or playing. It’s too bad

God, seeing this in HD (finally) is so great. My favorite VH tune. 1991, and I was 13 and really beginning to understand what I love about guitar, music, and rock n' roll. All these years later and that purple Axis is still my dream guitar.
