As has already been mentioned in the comments, Bas Rutten advocates a variation of this. He strikes with the radius, the bony prominence on the inside of the wrist. He strikes temple, angle of jaw, side of head or back of head. We practice this on our heavy bag. It took a while for us to get the speed and violence dialed in from both sides. For whatever reason, executing this strike from my non dominant left side was really awkward. It still ain’t great.

Mark is the man! Anyone who doesn’t know his work you need to look into it. He’s got amazing submission wrestling instructionals. He’s great. I always think of him as The Professor. He’s Brilliant.

During the early Pancrase days, closed fist punching wasn't allowed. Bas Ruten used a technique very similar to this very successfully during matches and still teaches it in his programs.

The Mr. Spock Neck Pinch works good too.

Great stuff, I had the chance to meet Hatmaker at Karate College back in 2001. His class was great, his approach was common sense but innovative. Great to see he's still putting out quality content!

For years now, My father has talked about Slapping fools on the Occipital Bun. He said you can make someone bite their tongue, by slapping them there.

Then again he is in his 80s, so they fought a lot different back in the 50s and 60s. From his stories the men back then fought with more skill and technique.

This could be the most effective strategy I've seen since learning about Russian Slap martial arts!

I agree, great stuff, simple technique and easy enough to recall when all hell is busting loose. Thank you Sir!

Apart from the one time I was knocked out (a stray elbow on the point of the chin at a Clash gig) the closest I've come to it was getting hit in the occiput by a gel- shotput, when I strayed in front of an 11 year old who was throwing it. It staggered me and I got the bright flashing lights in front of my eyes for a second!

Growing up, my grandmother was friends with Gun Boat and I met him when I was 8 years ols in Leesburg Florida back in the early 70's. Had not heard Gun Boats name until today. His hands were huge. Good times thanks!

Pretty good techniques on your channel…know a couple nerds at my youth group that have been very annoying lately… may have to use self defense on them
