The Mi Mix 2 didn’t blow me away like the first phone did, because whereas the Mi Mix 1 stood alone at the time of release, the Mi Mix 2 is coming into a market full of bezel-less phones..

This is due to no fault of Xiaomi, which improved on the first Mi Mix on every front: it’s more powerful, faster, and feels much better in the hand than the first device.

More than three years later, I replaced the stock battery with a proven 3600mAh battery which I found on Ali. So the step back is no step back anymore. Even in 2021 this is still a good phone with SOT of about 5 hours running with privacy respecting Lineage OS 18.1 (Android 11). With Gcam and OpenCamera still my daily driver. Hint: There is a USB-C headphone jack adapter with an HiRes Realtek Chip able to do HiRes Music under 19 bucks on Amazon sounding as good as the new Xperia phones. Still my dream phone!

Chris once again you prove that you are one of the best reviewers on here. I am wondering what to upgrade my MI5 to, had thought about the Mi6 but this is growing on me. In terms of using it is the size unwieldy, always value your views. R

Thanks for the informative review mate. I actually found Mix 2 not a big improvement overall. True you get some more LTE bands, but the design perhaps was the biggest of the minuses. Camera is only for still shooting, the battery was reduced in account of the thickness, and a lot more. At $600 for the 256gb variant, I can say it's a super sweet deal though. Kudos to Xiaomi for staying a budget-mindful company.
