There are probable explanations, but who is in the mood to hear it?
I get to thinking about how many former confederate communities in the United States refused to celebrate the 4th of July from 1865 until 1945, until common cause has sufficiently washed the bitterness out of their mouths. Only THEN did honest, self reflection begin, and even that made slow progress for another 20 years.
I take no side, per se, in this quarrel, save to say that it has been the greatest failure of America to not properly follow up on Russia after the Cold War. Neither Bush, Clinton nor Gingrich paid the least attention to the suffering of Russia, nor did NATO, throughout the 90s. I sincerely believe that that was not Reagan’s intention, and had he been legally and mentally capable of having four terms, Russia, and by extension, Ukraine, would not now be fighting, as the distrust that grew out of the 90’s abandonment to suffer in gangster anarchy wouldn’t have happened. I also think he would have forced NATO to go in another direction.
Alas, as great at limiting terms is at minimizing corruption, it also cultivates a great deal of political amnesia and narrow sightedness, blind to the bigger long term picture.
There’s no good outcomes to this, only “Do we get Nuked Or Not”. I fear if Russia could somehow be stopped without resorting to “The Unforgivable Word”, (As CS Lewis put it), that within 20 years, Ukraine will become a Neofascist oligarchy, imposing that disgusting pseudoorthodox Heresy and persecuting the True Faithful, which in turn will give the insufferable Neocons an opportunity to flex their warmongering clout again, just keeping the Military industrial complex going and going. They COUNT on this bitterness festering in unchristian unforgivness like seeds for sowing future wars, it’s their infernal bread and butter. “We came, we saw, HE DIED!”, the American Jezebel said as Gaddafi was raped to death after his innocent grandchildren were murdered in front of him for daring to defy the Petrodollar, the lifeblood of the industrial complex. It should be no wonder that Putin fears the same fate. How is The Patriarch to assuage him to calm down when such greedy cretins as that Jezebel thirst for his blood? That little Antichrist Saul Alinski bound her soul to Satan! Yet, Putin in his own arrogance could find NOBODY he could trust to run in his place, someone young and creative enough to find ways to resist NATO and Davos without resorting to such tactics? The local strength of the Ukraine may have been a surprise but it was NO surprise that they would be used as proxies if they could last more than a month. It was a very stupid gamble. Putin is too old and paranoid to lead in the way Russia needs. Is there really no one as strong but more aware of the modern needs? Or is he simply too proud to not die with his boots on?
Are there ANY leaders in the major countries with clout now who are not either horribly corrupt, incompetent or weak?
Brave soldiers are wasted in service to such creeps.
