How To Program Honda Remote Key FOB Transmitter Without a Scan Tool

In this video I show how to program a Honda key FOB transmitter so that it works with the door lock system. If the master power window switch (window control unit) is replaced on older Hondas, this programming must be done. On many older Honda vehicles it is possible to do this programming without the use of a scan tool and I show how in this video.

If the programming is not done, the lock/unlock on the key FOB transmitter will not work and there will be no way to turn off the built in alarm system if it is activated.

The official name for this procedure according to Honda is Keyless Entry Transmitter Programming.

Most newer Hondas, like those with keyless push to start systems, require the use of a Honda factory capable scan tool if any of the remote key FOBs need to be programmed, so if you do not have access to a scan tool the vehicle will need to be taken to a shop that does.

The exact vehicle in this video is a 2004 Honda Accord 2.4L EX sedan.

I laughed at the end of the video. Some guy told me the only way to program my FOB was to take it to him or an authorized Honda dealership. I was expecting this code to bring out a high tech device, hook it up to the car, and punch in codes. People are ridiculous for taking advantage of those that don't know any better. Thankful for you ! 👍🏼👍🏼

Key fob hasn't worked in years, thought it was the battery and I got it replaced, still no luck. Can't believe it was THIS easy. Thanks, just saved me from the money hungry dealership.

Played the video and did steps with you thank you so much!!! Shame on these dealerships for trying to rob us by charging $150 to do this. They should do this as a courtesy 🤦‍♀️. Thank you so much

Worked on 2015 Civic LX. My car didn’t unlock/lock on the 4th turn, but when I took my key out and tried it, it works 😁 thanks!

Thank you so much, I just left the Honda shop after spending 4 hours in that place & they couldn’t program my key with their fancy equipment, then they charged me $229, Jesus led me to you, I followed your directions & it worked 🎉🎉🎉

Worked on an old 90s Honda with single button key fob. Took a few tries but worked wonders. You absolute legend! Thanks so much (all the way from NZ) 👏👏

You are an absolute genius! I tried this so many times and it wouldn't work on my 2005 Pilot, until I followed the very last step in this video. I opened and closed the driver door. Once I did that, everything worked!! Thank you!

Spot on mate, it worked a treat. That waiting one second before you turn on again is good advice but you have up to five seconds to complete it each time, and if you have additional keys you leave the key in the ignition as this fella has done on the fourth click then all you have to do is one click on each additional key fob once for one second and you have 10 seconds to complete that process.

This worked like a charm on my wife’s 2014 CR-V except I had to use the lock button, the unlock button didn’t work. Also on the fourth cycle the doors didn’t lock or unlock but after completing the sequence and removing the key it worked perfectly. Thanks again!!

Wow. I've tried this without success until this video. I even thought something may be wrong with the receiver. Seeing the timing you used made all the difference. Thank you!

I remembered this video, from a while back and returned to program a Honda keyless fob for my ‘05 Honda Civic. This is simple, to the point, quick & easy. I followed along with you in the video and got this old fob to work. Thanks!
