Analysis: Turkey-France spat reflects deeper issues

France on Saturday said it was recalling its envoy to Turkey for consultations after comments by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan seen as derogatory towards President Emmanuel Macron.

FRANCE 24’s international affairs editor Philip Turle says there are broader issues underlying the spat, including Turkey’s unilateralist response and intervention in Syria, a resources dispute with Greece, and backing for Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
