Stormlight is brilliant. Sanderson is a superstar. The future of fantasy.

Yes! That "I'll see what I can do" scene is so good. You almost forget it after reading Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, but every re-read when I know that's coming it's hard to put the book down or stop the audio. So good!

What's funny is that 99.9% of audiobooks that have 2 narrators do that. Its extremely rare to find an audiobook the man does the men and the women does the woman in every chapter

Awesome take. Even flawed works can be incredibly special. I felt the same way about the Licanius Trilogy. Most of the characters (not all of them) were vanilla, but the plotting of that series was so special that I was completely blown away by the end of the series.

Edit: I know you like Graphic Audio, and I should mention that this for me was by far the most entertaining format for the Stormlight series.

I agree that this was the book where Sandersons strengths completely overshadowed his flaws. This was the first Sanderson book I gave a 10/10 to. Every other book couldnโ€™t quite hit a 10 because of the flaws. This book still has those flaws but he did the things he does well so damn well in this book that it didnโ€™t matter.

Stormlight Archives is something else. That first two book is quite something

so cool to see you compare your thoughts now to back then. I think I thought the same about the Shallan flashback scenes but the reveals at the end really made it up for me. I think Kaladin's flashbacks were better intertwined with the "now" narrative in TWOK tho. Excited to see what you think of Oathbringer this time around :)))

Man, I LOVED Shallan's backstory. She's one of my favorite characters.

OMG! Why did you post this? Now, I want to completely abandon my TBR for the next several months and re-read Stormlight.

the "Honor is dead but I see what I can do" moment/chapter/chapters si the current "to go" when I am in a reading slump.... and it staied from the moment I read it around 2 years ago. I know by hearth the chapter where it starts :)

When i read this for the first time in 2021 i thought it was the best book id ever read. When i reread the other month? Its still the best book ive ever read. WoR is nearly perfect IMO

Are you planning on reading Edgedancer in your re-read or just the full length novels?

I really like this one. Best sanderson book that Iโ€™ve ever read but it is mostly popcorn fantasy and still presents a lot of Sanderson s common flaws still very fun tho

I have read words of radiance and want to read the next book but I was made aware that it's part of the cosmere universe and tried reading the first book of mistborn and I can't even get past the 100 page mark ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ, now I don't know what to do. I desperately want to read oathbringer but I want the "full experience" too.

Just finished a reread of this as well. Stormlight is where I started with Sanderson, so coming back to it having now read the rest of the Cosmere has given me a much deeper appreciation for the book as a whole from a craft point of view. That being said, I too noticed the blemishes and cracks a bit more

Couldnโ€™t agree more about the world building. One you forgot to mention is spren. I feel like the world building is tied to some of the best worlds like lotr and asoiaf, but then the spren throws it way beyond that.

Dude I'm slowly moving through the grplaphic audio books and they're absolutely incredible. It's damn near like a movie

I think one small pet peeve I have with Sanderson in the Stormlight Archives is that he writes mostly formal, epic dialogue between characters, and then at some points just inserts multiple 'Yeahs' which kind of bring you out of immersion. Also there's this one section of the book where Dalinar grunts like 10 times in succession which became cartoonish

I love love love these books, and I'll admit, everything you've heard about oathbringer is true, I've been reading it for 6 months (young father with a family, lol so usually I binge read on breaks or in the morning) at the same time it has been the hardest to digest. ...it's already my favorite so far...it just is, looking back over the first two I realize how narrow in scope they really were as far as the narrative and IMO the world building. I'll definitely finish storm light all the way till 10, I like to take a while and refresh with other series in between. I absolutely recommend Storm light to any fantasy fan as, TWOK was the first book I read since the Percy Jackson series in early high school, so yes it is absolutely accessible and addictive...really the only gripe that I can understand about the series is sure, I don't always want my POV's to be super hero esque good guys, but then again- LOVE the szeth chapters as well. Just great, arguably bloated volumes but damn you get every words worth I guarantee
