Callan Andrews | Father of slain police officer speaks out

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the murder of a police officer in Gqeberha.
Constable Callan Andrews was disarmed of his weapon and robbed while on duty on New Year's Eve.
The Hawks say the two suspects - aged just 17 and 18 - are expected in court tomorrow.

Tragic so so sorry. A gang of teenagers did this. Unbelievable. He must of been so shocked in his last moments. He was doing his job and murdered in cold blood. A helper and excellent police officer. Only wanting to uplift his community and he is put in dangerous work with no bullet proof vest etc. This is insane in areas that they now have seasoned murderers and seasoned killers that are armed. This is disgusting. Help our young police officers. This is similar to sending those young untrained unharmed 'wardens' into Joburg CBD to walk around and be visible. Just asking for trouble. i am so so sorry for your loss. I will remember your son.

I hope that the community will also be addressed this afternoon. They need to understand that the police are not their enemy and that they are just providing a service and doing their job. The killing of this young man was so unnecessary. They could have just taken the firearm if robbery was their intension. I dont see why they had to kill a defenseless person, unless they want to proof something to their gangs. Today its the young Constable, tomorrow it will be one of them falling by the same lawlessness of the area of Gelvandale. The community's mindset need to chance. There is no sense in killing and fighting each other.
