I had the same issue in my food business. I wanted to be the most affordable on the block and customers started questioning why I was so much cheaper and accusing me of inferior product even though they admitted that my product was superior to the business’s down the street. They had never experienced the power of volume purchasing and passing on the savings to the customers. so in order to thrive I started to raise my prices, the customers started coming in more steady. It’s a powerful force one’s brain and what people will go through to bypass common sense. It only works if the consumer demands low prices.

Here in Germany, it is mandatory to report the prices of each gas station to a central database where everyone has access to. Everyone can check how the precise are in their region. Variation is mostly at 1 to 5 cents.

Gotta love fuel watch in Western Australia, locks in the price of fuel on a daily basis, and every servo has to report what their price will be on any given day @ 2pm the day prior. Legislation to force a better deal is incredibly based. And its all online and piss easy to check!

They aren't allowed to even have this meeting in the US as it is believed that they would then mutually agree to raise the price to make more money instead of competing with each other. I've heard some gas stations make 1 cent per gallon and then rely on people buying from their minimart to make a profit.

The wildest thing to me is when there are 3 gas stations on the opposite corners of the same intersection, they all have different prices, and for some reason most people go to the most expensive one.
