Shane. The only season 1 character that had a season 10 mindset.

Looking back it truly makes sense why they killed Shane off soo early, his cavalier approach towards solving problems and his prioritization of survival at any cost would have cut the series short.

Shane's mindset was already what the other survivors became in the late seasons. Shane just got the the realization much earlier. If Lori was out of the picture I think him and Rick would have been a good duo to lead the group

I wish Shane didn't die but instead went off and became part of another group. Imagine later on he reappeared with Negan! Whew!

Let's not forget that it was Shane's quick thinking that Rick survived the hospital in the beginning.
Rick was recovering and was unable to move so instead of just leaving him there unprotected, he jammed the room door with a bed to give him at least some chance of living.
Any normal person would've just ran away in that situation of panic.
Shane was a realist while Rick at the time was more of an idealist.
It's really easy to hate Shane because we mostly identify with Rick's compassion even when most of the time that leads danger to the group.
Shane became a villain due to the stupidity in the group and his only best friend losing his trust.

Shane was not crazy, he was just ahead of the curve.

The problem with Shane, outside of Lori, was that he adapted too quickly. It took meeting the Governor and the people of Terminus to the group to start thinking like Shane and then Negan to fully thinking like Shane. Shane was a victim of the Born in the Wrong Century Trope in a way. If he would it left the group and return far later into the series or reuniting with Rick for the first time post Terminus arc, he could it become the best asset of the group. He's instead at the beginning of the Fall, when the group still believed in the old world rules.

That pissed me off at the time. Shane was the only one who was thinking straight, and nobody could see that, he was above everybody else. I was 100% with him 😅

Shane has the survival mentality in season 1 that Rick gets in season 4 or 5. Shane was definitely ahead of everyone in terms of survival.

Shane was 100% right about Sophia no one wanted to accept it cos they was still hoping the old world would come back and her being dead esp by walkers was the realisation the old world was dead.
