Leafs need a goaltender 1st and foremost

Is Reda the guest or Hayes? Why channels have these segments where the host constantly interrupts and doesn't let the analyst get a full thought out of his mouth drive me crazy.

Marner is a dream playmaker….in the regular season

Tarasenko would not backcheck, Berube moved him to the 3rd line until he begrudgingly started working harder.

Kyrou was tied for the worst plus minus in the league and would not skate without the puck. Berube bumped him down and eventually had to sit him a game. Then Burbe gets fired as a scapegoat, and Kyrou gets booed off of home ice.

Berube does not put up with lazy players.
Put in effort, whether you are out matched or not.

The core 4 are all about stats and fancy plays and getting their money even though they have won nothing. I don't believe they are about the team at all. Leafs management is at fault for the mess their salary cap is in. None of Matthews, Marner or Nylander are captain material at this point in their career. The culture needs to change and every player needs to be accountable for all aspects of the game and many of them including the core 4 are not. That needs to change and it might under Berube if he has support from Treliving and Shanahan and that is an unknown at this time. I would still look to trade at least 2 of Marner, Nylander and Matthews. It would dump salary and you can likely get enough in return or have enough cap space to bring in other players that would make you better a team.

The most encouraging thing was how many times i heard "we want to play north". Watch evey team left they get the puck behind you and create turnovers and get chances immediately after the turnovers and repeat. Compared to were going to pass and skill our way through the neutral zone and play keep away until we get the perfect chance. Much more difficult to repeat. Sheldon figured it out but only after teaching the complete opposite for years. The boys are going to be fast and forward for Berube, thank god.

Who want a $11M player, who will most likely the highest priced player, that completely disappears in the playoffs.

Marner cannot become a hard toughnose player just because that’s required of him.

If Berube expects Marner to play like Marchand in the playoffs, then that tells Mitch his Leafs days are over. Mitch isn’t able to go into the dirty areas of the offensive zone to battle for the puck.

Also let's remember how polarizing people were on Willy when the Amazon series was out.. this is just how the maple leaf news cycle works

I hope Marner says: "I am not going anywhere. You gave me a no-movement clause in my contract and I am going to exercise my right to stay."

Nylander may be a marginally better offensive player than Mitch now, but there's no chance he brings more to the table overall.
Marner is an exceptional PK'er and ES shutdown guy. Points are not the only things that win hockey games.

One thing that I've thought about for about 2 years now that I don't hear discussed is the ages of these players. Going into the 2024-25 season Matthews will be 27, Marner will be 27, Nylander will be 28, Rielly will be 30 and Tavares will be 34. Now knowing Tavares is coming off the books after this year that still leaves the rest of the core coming very close to 30 where usually a player loses speed as this game is so fast now. Without a marner or Tavares trade next season seems like a wash as they won't have enough cap space to balance this roster out. I doubt anyone takes the Tavares contract for what hes worth now, and Marner may not waive his no trade so that means the core we keep are that much older.

If the Lefs don't want Mitch, I'd love to see him go to Chicago 🥰
