Arturia Pigments 3 Tutorial Ep#8 - Envelopes

Arturia's Pigments is a multi-featured, multi-engine synth with almost limitless modulation capabilities. In this series we'll deconstruct it to see how it works.

About me:

My name is Anthony Chisnall. I'm a musician & songwriter.

My channel is these things:

1. A place to share my songs - via various 'Back on Track' video series - in which you'll see each song idea evolve step-by-step, with me (hopefully!) improving my song-writing skills as we go.
2. An outlet for me to discuss all things musical - including technical break-downs of software and tools that I use, as well as more wide-ranging discussions of topics that interest me.

I play the guitar (electric, acoustic, and bass), and record all of my own synth-based sounds myself too, but I can't sing very well (huge understatement!), and so my wife, Pauline, who has a lovely singing voice, has come to my rescue. You'll hear her on all of my songs.

All of my music is written in Steinberg's Cubase.

I try very hard to make my videos PRACTICAL and no-nonsense - if I don't use a feature, I'm not going to waste your time trying to sound like an expert on it! This is the stuff I use day-to-day, so I think that's also what you'd like to hear me talking about.

I'm loving this series! I found that Pigments does let you invert an envelope, so for example at 9:00 you could send Env 2 to control F1 cutoff at -0.45 and it will start high and on attack dip down, and then release will come back up again.

And finally I understand how ADSR works, this series of tutorials is absolutely brilliant. Many thanks.

I like the way you explain from the basics and up to great detail of why things happen, nice change for me as a newbie, as most tutorials eg logic, midi control, VST synths etc etc only seem to do the basics and leaves you trying to work out the 90% thats still to go. looking forward to learning the rest of your Pigments 3. Might save up for Omnisphere now I have seen you do tutorial for that. Just trying to find a control surface that I can program some knobs for these VST's, all seems hit and miss on that one. Many thanks in putting these excellent tutorials together.

Thanks a lot for the precise explanations. In my case, i'd be very interested in seeing how it's possible to have long and low complex LFO in Pigments 4. I have a project where i use a Breath rate sensor, to modulate atmospheric generative music in Max MSP 8.5, my goal being to modulate between "breathing waves" and sound "modulation waves" effects. Thanks. Martin
