Caught on video: NYC sidewalk explodes in Midtown, Manhattan

Neighbors say it sounded like a bomb went off, and some buildings in the area had to be evacuated. CBS News New York's John Dias reports.

I remember seeing a nearby manhole cover blow up and fly into the air years ago during work. Was scary..glad no one was hurt here.

Omg ANOTHER gas explosion? This is the 3rd one I heard about in the past 2 weeks. Those people walking on the sidewalk are lucky they didn't get injured.

That one lady was on top of some pavement that moved, but thankfully at the very edge. Must have been terrifying, good thing she didn't fall over.

There was a warning on the radio about a gas leak the previous night. They were rerouting cars. I don't know if it was in that exact area, but it seems like a pretty obvious correlation.
