If it gets too hot inside the dome, you can add a thermostatic opener to one of the poly panels and a piano hinge to one side, it will automatically open and close at a set temperature. These are available from greenhouse suppliers and don't require any power.

BTW, it is industry practice to double up your cedar starter course to kick moisture away from the structure.

Great video man. I'll have to watch it again, as well as the one where you built the deck. Thank you. Jim in Oregon

That's going to look pretty cool! I might have opted for those screws with rubber washer for those plexiglass panels.

A 1v dome is the most basic geodesic, its only 25 struts :) If you use 8ft struts and a rigid covering you need to consider the board size of the rigid material (8x4 etc) with regards to waste and how you`ll fix it to an 8ft equilateral triangle with no internal timber struts to attach it to. Put a 21 degree bevel on the triangular cover panels for a nice fit.

self-built one of these, using 2x4x8' hemfir in '83, in woods NW of Tallahassee, FL. Insulated, drywalled, on pt wd pier foundation, door/window, cable-supported loft, shingled. we were all kids once 🙂 heck, might do it again, now that I see their STILL making those connectors. Better to thru-bolt the framing, kids!! buona fortuna.... >>a window is alot easier/weather-tight than a skylight 🙂<<

Question: If you would take a 60'' mesure then 56'', would you have less loss ? ( Assuming you have10 feet lumber )

How do you get the "plane" edge of a single triangle (part of a pentagon) to be flat under the USB and yet have that same edge be flat under the next sheet on the following triangle. The edges of each sheet of USB must be slightly up and not flat on each edge of the triangle?

Great build!
Scrails are great.... provided you dont use them with dewalt nail guns. Because they suck.

Can you link the siding that you used?

Love Brent, and all of the BYOT projects! One question though… At the end of every intro he does… Does he say "let's get started"? It's always kind of slurred, and I just want to know if that's what he's actually saying…

I don’t see the link in your link tree. Are you sure it’s there? Can you point me in the right direction?

Did guidelines change? I just bought a kit and it says 2x2 or 2x4
