Irene From Minecraft Diaries Was (Not) a Good Person

I never actually put all the pieces together and thought about who exactly was Irene and why she did the things that she had to. Of course, we all know the story by now. Irene was someone who was blessed by the gods and thanks to that power, she always tried to do the right thing and was morally grey when it came to her actions. Mostly choosing what was best for everyone and whatever option would cause less casualties. Her past can get pretty dark when you learn about the things that she went through and had to do in order to save everyone she cared about.

What I find particularly interesting about Irene is that Jess clearly wasn't where she was going with Irene as a charactar when she wrote the first season. That's why Irene has several origin stories. The first time Irene was mentioned in depth, she was introduced as a random daughter of rich merchants. And when her parents supported some tyrannical king, Irene wasted all of her parents' money to start a revolution and helped to overthrow the monarchy, so Irene was expelled from the city. That was the way Irene was first introduced. Not a goddess, just a rich brat whose heroic deeds were having money xD

Irene shouldn’t have turned her and Shad’s daughter into a relic.That’s the only reason Shad has tried to kill her so many times.He would’ve kept loving her and sure there would’ve been fights still, But he wouldn’t have wanted to kill her for his child.Irene and Shad had a good love story in the beginning, But she definitely made mistakes and that’s why he’s her enemy in Season 3.

He was yelling at Aphmau in Season 3 because Irene did something to a “her” who didn’t deserve it.Hyria mentions that Irene and Shad did have a daughter but it’s Shad who keeps mentioning her.He says he never will forgive her for what she’s done.Because that was his baby, His only real family.In Season 6, Emmalyn remembers a moment where Aphmau and Shad are yelling at each other.That’s when Shad says that she turned their daughter into a relic and made him use it.Her and Shad were in love before, But after she lost the ability to feel, She lost the ability to feel empathy for the wrong thing she had done.

I mean, as a kid, I did not like Irene. I didn't fully understand, but when I watched the flashbacks, I was just put off with how she interacted with others.

Honestly, I just always felt bad for Aphmau, Aaron, and Garroth for being stuck in a cycle they didn't create with baggage from past lives.
From Garroth doomed to being in love with a person that didn't feel the same but still protect her regardless. To Aaron doomed to lose his child and what he loved and be deemed a monster. To Aphmau doomed to be the good person that gives herself entirely to a cause that slowly destroys her mental health.

So this analysis on Irene was really cool!! Good job!!!

They also believed she could preserve and *would willingly make sacrifices because they imagine she's probably sacrificed more for them, * all her friends and family became just another one of these people. *They could feel* anger, envy, joy and despair *when she could not.*

Imagine that, *absolute power* in the palm of your hands to do everything to stop cataclysms and save god-like beings from death *but somehow someway you realize you've become a slave to the harmony you created.*

Minecraft Diaries, Mystreet, and Diaries Rebirth are not in the same universe but they do have a connection to each other. Jess herself explained that these universes fill in the gaps for each other. I am unsure if the other roleplay series have a connection.

I actually agree. Shad was essentially created by Irene. She's trying to turn Aphmau into her because that's all she knows now. She became what she hates about herself and is struggling to remove those mannerisms and beliefs from herself. It's both sad and frustrating because she was initially immortal who grew into power and soon became an immortal goddess who tries to save everything and everyone while also doing stupid choices.

She's a morally grey character who is trying to be good but ends up hurting those who are close to her. She's the type of person who will choose to sacrifice to save the many.

Just something I wanted to point out in When Angels fall is when Aphmau Dies we see one of the old Irene’s playing with her daughter and actually caring so she did what she wanted in being able to feel emotions agin I guess.
