in a specific version of alpha you can do it much faster (but you need to get lucky) puffingfishHQ has a video explaining it, but basically there was a version when pressing f4 would just spawn a portal, then once in the nether if you went back to the overworld while in a boat it would perform a multiply by 8 glitch

Why not combine the axolotle launch with an eye of ender to prevent the fall damage?
