Stop weighing yourself; in fact, throw away your scale because weight is a misleading measure of progress.

I want you to throw your scale away and stop weighing yourself. You may think this sounds crazy, but it’s not. Let me explain how weight is a misleading measure of progress.

So often, people tell me, “I’m not losing weight! What do I do?”. They feel discouraged and lose their motivation. I don’t want this to happen to you. Here’s what I say. When I ask if they’re losing inches, they say yes. I encourage them to keep going, because their keto eating plan is working.

Losing inches is more important than the number on the scale. For example, one man following my plan lost fifty pounds and ten inches off his waist. But as he lost those ten inches off his waist, he actually gained back ten pounds of the fifty he lost. Here’s why this is possible:

Muscle is heavier than fat. This man started with fatty muscle, which turned into lean muscle. When you fix insulin resistance, caused by chronically high insulin, your lowered amount of insulin allows your body to absorb protein into the muscle. Then you get your muscle back, and you start shrinking. Yes, even while you’re gaining weight!

Don’t let your life be ruled by the number on the scale. I want you to throw your scale away. Use your inches lost as the indication that your keto eating plan is working. Weighing yourself can cause you to get discouraged if you focus on the number of pounds instead of how much leaner you are.

No matter what most women will never throw their scale away. We might use it less, but the scale stays.

Makes sense. When you initially meet someone, you just think.."they look fit/nice whatever". You don't really think...."I'll bet they're under 150 lbs!" :)

I'm obsessed with the scale. I weight myself every morning to make sure I'm not gaining weight back. I've never been able to stay at 130 lbs in my life and I am ecstatic about it and would like to keep it that way. Everything is working just fine if I get to keep my scale ! :)   Love all your information.

I have slowed down on my weight loss but my size is still going down. I am near the end of my weight loss goals getting great muscle gains. I believe what he is saying is true don’t just judge the scale.

Even if you're not working out? I've been on keto for 31 days now, and it just seems really slow. A week ago I quit weighing myself because the lack of movement on the scale was discouraging.

I stopped weighing myself in college. I don't even let them weigh me  when I go to the doctor. I use my clothes as a measurement.

Could not agree more! We are a family of four - my husband and I in our early fifties and two teen kids - and we have never had weighing scale at home.

None of us is over weight!

The weight loss is slow but I have been looking smaller. I weight myself every day to motivate myself to stay on track with IF 😆

I find the best thing is If you feel in your body you have gained weight, don’t weigh until you feel like you have lost weight, then allow yourself to weigh and see your positive progress.

My old personal trainer told me this same thing. Husband tells me this all the time too. I'm a big girl and I still have a ways to go but I lost 10 pounds.

You would post this on the day that I was ready to quit keto. 16 months, 145 pounds down, and stalled for 6 damn weeks. I literally weigh every gram of food and liquid I put into my body. I gave up all items that had maltitol, wheat, or anything over 3 net carbs. I added IF as you suggested and started exercising 3 weeks into my stall. Still nothing. Sorry the SCALE stays. I need something to keep me in check. Life insurance policies don't care about how much muscle you have, they want you in the "health weight range" They want a small BMI number, regardless of how many inches you have on your waist....

I lost 15 pounds in like 40 days and now it's been a month without losing a pound. Honestly I am not losing inches either. I am in ketosis, no doubt there. I like being calm and never have cravings or hunger, but I am frustrated I am not losing no pound nor inches. Same goes for my husband. He lost 20 pounds the first month and now he stopped just like me. We are not overweight but we definitely have lots of inches and pound to lose. At least ten more. Should I go on one meal a day? It would be not a problem for me, but definitely a no for my husband, he feels tired if we skip dinner
