Norton Tutorial: Exclude Files & Folders Auto/Manual Scans

Read the full written tutorial here:

This is a short easy video tutorial on how to exclude files and folders from Norton Anti-Virus Auto Protection and Manual Scans.

I recently downloaded a .zip file containing a large number of obscure file extensions and Norton lost its mind! IT quickly began auto removing everything. They were all "low-level" risks, but I had to manually undue each file... and there were over 100. Needless to say that wasn't fun.

The best thing to do in these cases is to make a "i know this shit is safe" folder somewhere on your computer and add that folder and all its subfolders and files to the exclusion list for manual scans and the auto protection feature. That is what I am going to show you how to do in this tutorial.

I figured I would make this tutorial because I couldn't find any up-to-date information on how to do it. It's 2016 and there should be a tutorial on youtube by now right??

The Process

First Open up the Norton Security Center. Click on the Settings menu option.

Open Norton and Click on Settings.

A second window will open. From the new options click "Antivirus".

The will open a new internal page. There you will be confronted with 3 tabs. You need to choose the middle tab, "Scans & Risks".

Now scroll down to the "Exclusions / Low Risks".

There are two options we want to focus on. The "Items to Exclude from Scans" and the "Items to Exclude from Auto-Protect SONAR and Download Intelligence Detection".

Click configure for whichever one fits your needs. I added my exclusion folder to both lists just to be sure.

Now just click the appropriate button - add file or add folder - navigate to the appropriate file or folder, select it and hit Apply.

This helped much, Thank you! Also, I love how you were quick to the point and actually talked on the video instead of using like notepad or something to talk!

What you showed WILL NOT WORK. After doing what you described you NEED to re-start your computer or the scanner will ignore your settings. I just finished pulling out half my hair trying to get it to work but after I shut down my computer and re-started it finally stopped scanning the folders I told it not to scan. You would think Norton technical support would know this but I spent 30 minutes chatting with them and they NEVER told me to re-start.

Thank you so much. Norton fucks over my Steam games all the time and when I develop stuff it removes the DLLs I create so its good to finally get rid of that bullshit.

Did exactly that for a customer when scanning to a folder. I even checked the allow sub folder box as well. Still doesn't allow scan to go through. But works just fine when I disable firewall. Any thoughts?

right now I have stored all my games on Local Disk D.
I haven't got any windows files on Local Disk D
I got so many games and movies on local disk D.
So in this case you say I have to exclude my whole Local Disk D??
But there are chances for hidden Virus files also right?
What should I do?

I’m going to switch to norton just because it allows me to exclude a folder not just a damn file like mcafee.

I am asking this because my PC is infected with Viruses heavily.
YouTube and Google and Gmail errors and there. ...Google Chrome is also not working.
I have to do a Full System Scan very soon.
But I want to keep all my games from getting scanned.
What can I do please??
