Awesome! Now THAT's a fitting whistle for such powerful and commanding locomotives!

That’s exactly what a cab forward whistle sounds like it’s interesting that the whistle is controlled by an air valve rather than conventional whistle rope valve That’s why it sounds like that but it sounds amazing

There is very little footage of an AC-12 (Cab Forwards) 6 chime whistle because, dude, who would be interested in filming a steam locomotive in the 40's or 50's.

And the other main reason is because these locomotive's used mostly their horn crossings and warning people

(Props to him who found the footage of the 6 chime being used in these locomotive's)

256 Cab Forwards were build by Baldwin in Eddystone, Pennsylvania for the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Love you hear the chirps of the compressors on the front of the boiler, that is a legit tell for a Cab-forward.

What are the sources on these recordings?
Some of these sound like they might not be from an AC, since the cab forwards couldn't quill their whistles due to the whistle valve being a simple on-off switch, rather than a pull-chord like on most other steam engines.
