In-depth iPad Pro Logic Board Diagnostics. How To Fix an 11in iPad A2377 that is not charging

This iPad Pro 11in, 3rd Generation came to me for repair after the customer tried to repair their own iPad by replacing the USB C Charging Port. After replacing the port, it turned on, but wouldn’t charge, so he sent it to us here in Las Vegas, to fix it.

First thing we noticed was that the iPad was fully turning, but would shut off instantly after unplugging the charger. This clued me into the battery being bad. Sure enough, it was flat at 0V.

So I walk through the process of jump starting the iPad battery to get some life out of it.

Now it’s stuck on the low battery symbol forever. USB meter is drawing very low current. About 0.03A.
This is not good. The USB meter should be drawing 15V and 1-2A.

Since we’re seeing 15V charging, this tells me the USB C controller (CD3217) is working properly. So my focus would be on the battery connector.

Sure enough, I found the battery connector was damaged from the DIY repair attempt. There was a missing battery pin.

I replaced the battery connector & the iPad is now fixed. It is charging at 15V and 2A, which is about 30W in charging.

Curious, if the USB-C port bad, the pros have the keyboard dock connectors that add an additional USB port, if that port is also dead, does that likely mean a board issue and if it is a board issue, can it replaced or has Apple made sure to lock that down so that it's a paper weight.

Great video. I have an iPad Pro with constant battery draining while standby even after factory reset with everything turned off. Replace battery doesn’t fix it. I try to replace the IC Tigris but doesn’t help. Any idea would be very appreciated. Thanks

It's good to see that you have the same issue with these as I do, The amount of shops that have sent me a iPad not charging after a charge port replacement, for me to find that same pin snapped off. I wonder how they even do it. One thing I do when I am trying to isolate the battery is I use an screen separator card (like a plastic card) or I use a new battery plastic insert from the cardboard packets the battery cells come in, and chop them to side of the battery connector and shove them in there, that way, no damage to the connector, board or battery and the iPad is isolated.
When it came to boosting battery's back to life, I started out doing it like you did, then I got lazy, and just super glued solder wick to the plastic strip I use to isolate the battery and just connect the power supply alligator clips to that, saves having to hold the probes on.
