CorpusCast is the podcast about corpus linguistics and what it can do for society.

Join Dr Robbie Love as he speaks with top researchers in the field to find out more about how corpus linguistics – the study of linguistic patterns in large samples of language – is applied to a diverse range of areas including health, social justice and education.

On this episode, Robbie chats to Dr Kwabena Sarfo Sarfo-Kantankah, associate professor of English and dean of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Cape Coast.

Kwabena’s research interests include the critical analysis of political and parliamentary discourse, using methods from corpus linguistics, discourse analysis and pragmatics.

He graduated from the University of Leeds in 2016 with a PhD in English Language.

His recent publication “Gender-based violence in Ghanaian parliamentary discourse: A corpus-assisted discourse analysis” is available open-access from the journal Critical Approaches to Discourse Analysis Across Disciplines.

The University of Cape Coast is the highest ranked university in Ghana and West Africa and a top 5 university in Africa (Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 2022).

I'm a year 2 PhD student myself. I'm also using Corpus Linguistics to analyse English as a Second Language writing, so thanks for such an informative interview. I really like the way Dr Kwabena Sarfo has summarised his findings in a simple manner. Cheers
