Canon C70 | Thoughts from a C200 Owner

The Canon EOS C200 has been my go to workhorse for over 2 years. With the announcement of Canon's latest cinema creation, the C70, I am have quite a few thoughts regarding all the announced specs and features. Tune in to this video to find out.

Speaking of RAW I hate that C70 only shoots JPEG. I prefer to shoot a RAW still to use as a template for color matching.

Been shooting the C100m2 for a couple years, definitely upgrading. So happy I didn’t buy the R5.

Bro I've been watching your channel for awhile and hope this helps, but you got to slow down when you talk. Not really speed wise but gather your thoughts or words and get the content out. You have a lot to offer and you are very knowledgeable just take your time with your sentence my guy. Hope you understand i'm coming from a good place.

I own the C500 MKII and I've shot XFAVC (C-log2) and Raw on it and I can honestly tell you that there are no major differences between the codecs. From now on I'm shooting XFAVC on my camera. Don't let Raw stop you from buying a camera. The amount of storage that you'll need to shoot a project is going to be ginormous. I think Raw makes sense for a Hollywood production not lower budget shoots.

Hi. I'm guessing you were talking about Canon mirrorless cameras and internal nd, because Sony also has them. Not sure about Panasonic and Black Magic, but Sony def been doing it for years on their FS line.

Focal reducer: so you can get FF look on EF, but not on RF glass. That makes sense.

Black Magic would be more than happy to support BRAW for this camera, but it's really up to the camera manufacture to implement it to their cameras. Black Magic even said it, they're all about collaborating in that aspect.

Netflix approved cameras are only for Netflix originals, right? Why is everybody all up in arms about a Netflix approved camera, are any of you shooting Netflix originals and even if you are I’m sure there’s budgets to rent “Netflix approved” cameras 😅

Same dilemma here. I'm a C200 owner. But it might be less of a headache for me to get the R5 as a Bcam. And I work in Post Production for Broadcast and we have been 4K (only) for at least 4 years now. Future Proof.

Omg 😳 decisions?!? I agree with your breakdown. 2 questions 🙋‍♂️ 1. Do you think they will possibly do a firmware to enable this c70 do raw? If they do, how would you stack the c70 to the pocket 6k? 2.What’s your thought on Blackmagic at this point? Do you think they will sneak up quietly like they do and launch a pocket 8k? 🤯 I’ve been waiting, and I was about to finally pull the trigger on the pocket6k, but now this makes me think twice. But what if I do this camera, I know in the back of my head Blackmagic is gonna release something... camera decision anxiety 😥. Love to hear your thoughts! Keep it up James!👍

C70 doesn't do for now... the S1H didn't output RAW when it first came out...

there is a third RAW possebility: Canon RAW light might be updated with lower file sizes (to choose from)

Sorry, bro. Like me, you NEED raw along with an SSD. That's what I'm doing with my C200 and it's so beautiful.... but man. I wished I had the C300 Mkiii. Don't have money to freely spend just like that.

Don't be surprised if Canon puts out a C200 Mark II by years end. I have noticed in the last 3-4 years that Canon puts out a video camera that closely addresses many of the issues that STILLS cameras shooting video come up short about a month after the hubbub and Youtube videos post. So here's your video centric R6 (and some degree R5). ;)
